Major cities across America are reeling from Democrat initiatives to defund the police. Violent crime is skyrocketing, and rampant theft is shutting down businesses. Church Militant's Trey Blanton rounds up the latest incidents.

Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan: "This past weekend serves as a reminder, there are many times and types of  911 calls that require a traditional, sworn police officer to respond."

Democratic-run Seattle is being forced to rethink its defund-the-police strategy. Mayor Durkan announced Monday 250 police officers left the force in the last 17 months.

Seattle police were unable to respond to many emergency calls over the weekend because the reduced force responded to six shootings. The rise in crime runs contrary to Durkan's prediction last summer.

CNN's Chris Cuomo asked, "How long do you think Seattle and those few blocks looks like this?" Durkan responded, "I don't know. We could have a summer of love."

Black communities in Los Angeles are suffering from the Democrat-led response to crime with hundreds of shootings and murders.

LA police veteran Deon Joseph:

Crime does pay right now across this country. Criminals know that they have the green light to pretty much do what they want to do because we're in an era where we coddle criminals instead of holding them accountable. So they're pretty much getting away with not just thefts, but my concern mostly is the human toll.

Los Angeles isn't the only city in the blue state suffering as San Francisco businesses stagger under the loss of aggressive theft.

Local resident: "It's definitely gotten a lot more aggressive over the last couple of years. People are very, very bold in their shoplifting tactics, is what we've seen recently."

And, in Oakland, former senator Barbara Boxer was shoved to the ground, her phone stolen. President Trump was one of the few to call attention on Tuesday to the Democrat politician's robbery.

Trump called for our once-great cities to renew their commitment to law enforcement.

Donald Trump: "Just about the top 40 cities are run by Democrats and, in many cases, [are] radical left. And they've got you wrapped around their finger, Joe, to the point where you don't want to say anything about law and order."

In Minneapolis, activist K.G. Wilson is leaving town after spending years reaching out to downtrodden members of the community.

Wilson relates, "I'm just done here, in Minneapolis. I don't want to work here ... and all I feel like I got in return is a murdered 6-year-old granddaughter and no arrest. And it's been two months later."

New York is also facing increased gun battles in the street, and AOC knows why.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez complains, "So we've been talking about defunding the police. Right now, the New York City Police Department budget, the operating budget, is $6 billion per year."

The response to crime should never be to reduce the number of people who fight crime.

2020 yielded the highest numbers of violent crime in America's history. 2021 is on track to dwarf  2020's record-setting stats.
