California Governor Gavin Newsom wants to run for President in 2028.
But Newsom knows his image as the woke Governor of the most far-left state in the nation is a no-go for voters.
Therefore, Newsom wants the public to think he’s the Democrat who “gets it” following the 2024 election.
Newsom started a podcast where he interviewed conservative media stars like Charlie Kirk, Steve Bannon, and Michael Savage.
On the podcast, Newsom used the interviews of these Trump supporters to claim he opposes biological males playing women’s sports, thinks woke terms like “Latinx” are ridiculous, and declares the Democrat brand “toxic.”
Newsom’s image rehab tour took him to Bill Maher’s HBO show where Newsom met a skeptical host not willing to buy his reboot at face value.
During the interview, Newsom complained that the Democrat brand is “toxic” as evidenced by a CNN poll showing the party with a 29 percent approval rating.
“We’re in the same damn echo chamber, these guys are crushing us. The Democratic brand is toxic right now. We had a high water mark two weeks ago, and that was a CNN poll at 29 percent favorability,” Newsom began.
Newsom told Maher that the point of his podcast – besides to refashion himself into someone who could actually get elected President – is to show that he can find common ground with ascendent pro-Trump right.
“It dropped in the NBC poll down to 27 percent. It’s one thing to make noise, but you also have to make sense. And I think with this podcast and having the opportunity to dialogue with people I disagree with, it’s an opportunity to try to find common ground and not take cheap shots,” Newsom added.
Maher’s BS meter was blaring at that point and told Newsom that most Americans would realize he championed all the policies he now decries.
“What do you say to people who say, well, this sounds all very good, but governor, you were the poster boy for a lot of this stuff?” Maher wondered.
Maher specifically cited a law Newsom signed that allows schools to hide from parents if teachers are trying to recruit their kids into transgenderism.
The Trump administration is now challenging this assault on parental rights in court.
“The California law, known as the Safety Act, prevents school boards from requiring staff members to tell parents when a student asks to use a different name or pronoun. It was the first law of its kind when Gov. Gavin Newsom, a Democrat, signed it in July, and it went into effect on Jan. 1. The act came after more than a dozen conservative-led school boards tried to mandate parental notification,” the New York Times reported.
CNN also produced a video of all the times Newsom used the phrase “Latinx” despite now claiming it was ridiculous and offensive.
If Gavin Newsom wants to run for President in 2028, his toughest opponent will be Gavin Newsom as he staked out leadership positions on all the woke policies that turned the American people against the Democrat Party.
