Meet the Abortion Activist Who Gets Hollywood’s Elite to Line Up for Planned Parenthood

NATIONAL   MICAIAH BILGER   SEP 29, 2017   |   1:02PM    WASHINGTON, DC
There’s a simple reason why Hollywood has been promoting Planned Parenthood so much these days: The billion-dollar abortion “non-profit” has an employee dedicated solely to urging celebrities to normalize the killing of unborn babies in their work.
Caren Spruch is Planned Parenthood’s director of arts and entertainment engagement. The Pride of Los Angeles described her influence as “far-reaching” in Hollywood, from convincing actress Emma Stone to wear a Planned Parenthood pin at the Oscars to pushing pro-abortion story-lines with writers and producers like Jill Soloway, Rachel Bloom and Shonda Rhimes.
Earlier this month, the pro-abortion women’s blog Refinery 29 described how Spruch is “taking over Hollywood” for the abortion chain.
According to the reports, she will “review scripts for medical and legislative accuracy, share the latest data, research and messaging on reproductive and sexual health and legislative issues, arrange consultations with healthcare providers or educators, coordinate filming at Planned Parenthood health centers, generate storyline ideas, and provide T-shirts, posters and other items for set design.”
Here’s more:
Elsewhere, Spruch has also been a strong driving force behind all that Planned Parenthood memorabilia you’ve probably noticed being flaunted on the red carpet (Emma Stone wearing a logo pin at the Oscars, for example.) Working with actors and writers in the Hollywood community is part of why the depiction of such plot points as a female protagonist getting an abortion have been far less “this is a horrible thing” and much more “this is just a choice I need to make right now” (e.g. on the likes of “Jane the Virgin” and “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend.”)
Thanks to Spruch, the abortion chain has a major foothold in already liberal Hollywood. Now, the public is seeing disturbing new story-lines like the “Scandal” episode where a main character smiled while aborting her baby to the tune of “Silent Night.” Or abortion comedy films like “Obvious Child” and “Grandma” that attempt to make aborting an unborn baby seem normal and good for women.
And that’s the point. Planned Parenthood wants to saturate the public with its pro-abortion agenda, whether in politics, the news media or the entertainment industry.
Spruch believes they are succeeding.
She told the women’s blog: “We’ve seen a lot of progress on portrayals of women’s health in entertainment, especially storylines about abortion on TV. Just in the last year, several TV shows have depicted non-stigmatizing abortions, including Jane the Virgin, Good Girls Revolt, You’re the Worst, Masters of Sex, Crazy Ex-GirlfriendThe Fosters, and GLOW.This signals a real and important cultural shift.”
The abortion chain really seems to have ramped up its lobbying in Hollywood after the Center for Medical Progress exposed its aborted baby body parts trade. The undercover investigation hit Planned Parenthood hard as it showed top employees talking in gruesome detail about crushing aborted babies’ bodies and collecting their eyeballs and livers for researchers.
Spruch’s work appears to be one of Planned Parenthood’s strategies for diverting the public away from its horrendous human rights abuses.
Planned Parenthood is the top abortion business in the United States, and it receives approximately half a billion tax dollars each year to keep running. The abortion group performed 328,348 abortions on unborn babies in 2015, 4,349 more than the previous year, according to its annual report.
At the same time, it saw 2.4 million patients, about 100,000 fewer than the previous year and about 500,000 fewer than five years ago. Contraception services, which the abortion chain touts as its primary service, also dropped from 2.94 million to 2.8 million during the past two years.
Meanwhile, the abortion chain received more taxpayer funding. The report shows Planned Parenthood receiving $554.6 million, up from $553.7 million the previous year. This increase occurred while pro-abortion President Barack Obama was in power.
This pattern is consistent with its annual reports from the past several years. Abortions and taxpayer funding keep going up, while patient numbers and other services go down.
congressional investigation into the abortion business involving its sales of aborted baby parts concluded with lawmakers recommended that Congress defund it. Planned Parenthood also has been caught in numerous scandals involving Medicaid fraud andfailures to report suspected sex trafficking and sexual abuse of minors.

New York Times Trashes Judicial Nominee’s Catholic Faith: It Makes Her More Radical Than the Mainstream

 NATIONAL   CORTNEY O'BRIEN   SEP 29, 2017   |   9:11AM    WASHINGTON, DC
Earlier this month, Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) and some of her rude colleagues on the Senate Judiciary Committee interrogated judicial nominee Amy Barrett about her Catholic faith. “The dogma lives loudly within you,” Feinstein told Barrett, who is nominated to serve on the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit in Chicago. Religious freedom advocates were incensed that Feinstein succumbed Barrett to a public “religious test,” suggesting that her faith would affect her rulings.
The New York Times has “picked up” where the senators left off, according The Catholic Association. In a new piece entitled “Some Worry About Judicial Nominee’s Ties to a Religious Group,” NYT writer Laurie Goodstein suggests that Barrett’s Catholic faith is a bit more radical than that of more mainstream Catholics, zooming in on her ties to a religious group called People of Praise.
Some of the group’s practices would surprise many faithful Catholics. Members of the group swear a lifelong oath of loyalty, called a covenant, to one another, and are assigned and are accountable to a personal adviser, called a “head” for men and a “handmaid” for women. The group teaches that husbands are the heads of their wives and should take authority over the family.
Goodstein then goes on to quote legal scholars who fuel her narrative, but also speaks with the leader of People of Praise, who says the group does not try to “control” people and insists they are neither “nefarious” nor “controversial.”
The writer eventually admits Barrett’s credentials and endorsements.
Ms. Barrett, 45, has never served in the judiciary but has won praise for her legal credentials. A law clerk for Justice Antonin Scalia, she was hired at 30 at Notre Dame Law School.
She is a member of the conservative Federalist Society, a conduit for judicial nominees to the Trump White House. More than 70 law professors across the country signed a glowing letter of endorsement. A separate letter of endorsementwas signed by all of her fellow faculty members.
One has to wonder whether the NYT would do such a deep dive into Barrett’s religious background if she clung to a faith that wasn’t so closely aligned with conservative values.
Ashley McGuire, Senior Fellow with The Catholic Association, spoke for many Catholics when she offered the following statement on Thursday.
“The New York Times picks up where Senators Feinstein (D-CA) and Durbin (D-IL) left off in trying to use Amy Barrett’s faith as a smear against her,” McGuire said. “An accomplished professor and legal scholar at the University of Notre Dame, the qualifications and credentials of Amy Barrett are unchallenged. That the left continues to treat her Roman Catholic faith as an impediment to office is a testament to just how beholden they are to their anti-religious bigotries.”
