Sometimes the offering was given just for the love of God, and sometimes it was given to show gratitude or repentance. In our lives, gifts have a similar, positive effect of bringing people closer together, and thus we are taught by our Sages that generally, a gift should not be given anonymously, but rather in a way that brings together the hearts of the giver and the recipient.
