Shabbat Inspiration

The prophet Isaiah encapsulates God's will for His Blessed and Holy Land; that there shall be peace and serenity throughout the nation, flowing like a river throughout the land.  No other country so strives for quiet along its borders and peace and equanimity amongst its neighbors, as does the State of Israel. The miracle of Israel is even more unbelievable when seen in the context of the dark period of history that preceded it.  The Holocaust that ravaged European Jewry and shook the world to its core, defying all normal expectations of humanity, lies in stark contrast to the peace loving country that followed in its wake. This summer, join Rabbi Tuly Weisz for a Holocaust Remembrance Tour in Poland.  Witness mankind at its worst, to ensure that the memories of those that perished will never be forgotten.

Stolen Art Finds its Way to Israel

Amid efforts to restitute Holocaust assets, many in Israel are unaware that some of the paintings hanging in museums and private homes were once stolen by the Nazis.

A Physical, Spiritual Affliction

The Israel Bible mentions the teaching of the Sages, that 'tzaraat', discussed in this week's Torah portion, is a punishment for a number of sins, most notably slander. This serves to emphasize the importance God places on treating others with respect.

Sterling Silver Jerusalem Kiddush Cup

It is tradition for Jews to recite holiday, Sabbath and wedding blessings over a cup of wine. On the Sabbath, the designated cup for the blessing over the wine is meant to be a beautiful vessel. This specific Kiddush cup has a motif of Jerusalem, Judaism's holiest city, where the Temple stood. Made of Sterling silver, and wrapped with a band inscribed twice with the word Jerusalem.

Jerusalem of Gold by Noam Chen.
A Jewish text called Midrash describes that "if one prays in Jerusalem it is as if one were praying before the Throne of Glory, for the very gate of heaven is located there."
