The Palestinian Authority has long presented the Palestinian murderers of Israeli civilians as heroes and role models, but now Palestinian Media Watch (PMW) reports that the PA is taking it up a notch: promoting one of their convicted terrorists as a candidate for the Nobel Peace Prize.
The PA claims to have an internationally protected right, under a United Nations resolution, to support its attempted genocide of Israeli Jews. They refer to UN resolution 3236 of 1974, which "recognizes the right of the Palestinian people to regain its rights by all means." [Emphasis added]
The PA interprets that final phrase as justification for the murder of Israeli civilians. Predictably, the PA ignores the part of the resolution which clarifies that "all means" should be "in accordance with the purposes and principles of the Charter of the United Nations." The UN Charter, of course, prohibits the targeting of civilians even in war. Furthermore, as PMW notes, Chapter 1, Article 1 begins by saying that international disputes should be resolved "by peaceful means."
Nonetheless, the PA is asking the international community to award imprisoned Palestinian terrorist Marwan Barghouti the Nobel Peace Prize. As the leader of the Tanzim, Fatah's terror wing, Barghouti orchestrated many terror attacks in which Israelis were murdered. He was convicted in an Israeli court and is serving 5 life sentences for murder -- not to mention the dozens of other Israeli civilians who were murdered by Tanzim terrorists during the period in which Barghouti headed the group, murders for which he was not tried.
The PA and Fatah have enlisted many other of its leaders to promote Barghouti as a Nobel candidate. A couple of examples:
Mahmoud Al-Aloul,Fatah Central Committee member: "The fighter Barghouti is a source of pride for the Palestinian people and one of the founders of the Palestinian path of struggle."
Issa Karake, Director of PLO Commission of Prisoners' Affairs: "The nomination of Barghouti for the prize means support for the just rights of the Palestinian people in its struggle for freedom and independence, and support for the prisoners' cause, as well as their legitimate struggle for freedom and honor, as prisoners of freedom who sacrificed and fought for their land and in order to end the injustice the occupation is causing to our people."
Fatah, which calls Barghouti's arrest an "abduction," has called for a widespread popular campaign of solidarity and support for Barghouti for the Nobel because he represents "the entire Palestinian people, all of the freedom fighters, and the just Palestinian cause."
Of course, the Nobel Peace Prize long ago lost all credibility as an award for actual peacemaking - recipients have included Yassar Arafat and Barack Obama, for example - but the PA's recommendation of Marwan Barghouti demonstrates the shamelessness and arrogance of the Palestinian Nazi cause.
