WaPo Sympathetic to Illegal Alien Facing Deportation Despite Two Busts for DUI

But he’s such a good teacher!!

The Washington Post was too busy gushing over an illegal alien’s plight to avoid deportation that it didn't feel compelled to overemphasize the two occasions he was arrested for drunk driving.

“He taught lawyers, vets, and more how to ballroom dance. Now his students are trying to save him from deportation,” the headline stated. The Post immediately attempts to paint the dance teacher in a positive light from the get-go even though he apparently loves breaking laws.

The first few paragraphs talk about President Trump’s “crackdown on illegal immigration” and a life-long Republican and Trump voter who takes dance lessons from the alien in question and is fighting for him to stay.

Galtsog Gantulga, 22, came to the U.S. with his parents 13 years ago from Mongolia. Though two siblings were born on American soil, “G,” as he is referred to by his students, singed on to President Obama’s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals and obtained a temporary work permit. G’s parents overstayed their visas but eventually went back to their homeland.

The WaPo article does mention the two drunk driving incidents, but not after it strong-arms readers into feeling sorry for G:

Living alone for the first time, Gantulga landed a job at the Arthur Murray Dance Center in Alexandria and worked his way up to a top instructor.

But he was also drinking, sometimes too much.

In July 2016, police arrested him for drunken driving. Four months later, he was arrested again, for driving under the influence and a hit-and-run that involved him striking a parked car and leaving the scene. He was convicted both times and served about a month in jail.

Gantulga lost his DACA protection while his second criminal charge was pending. Soon, the government told him that they would try to deport him.

G believes he would’ve never driven drunk had his parents been allowed to stay. However, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement see it a bit differently:

“Mr. Gantulga entered the United States on a nonimmigrant visa but currently does not have lawful status in the United States. Gantulga has proven himself to be a public safety threat.”

The Post picked sympathetic quotes from his students who feel the system is being too hard on their teacher.

“He just messed up,” one said. “He built his life over here.”

Another, “He hurt no one in the two drunken driving incidents… He’s truly remorseful for his conduct.”

The life-long Republican donor mentioned, retired Army Colonel Charlie Heimach, invited the ballroom dance instructor to live at his home after serving his sentence.

“I’m a Republican, but the current administration is creating a national humanitarian tragedy,” Heimach said. “This poor kid is just going to go down the tubes if no one steps up.”

WaPo notes that though Heimach is a Republican, he voted for Democrat Ralph Northam in the Virginia election to counter the immigration reform proposed by Trump. Northam beat out the GOP contender Ed Gillespie thanks to the “deep-blue, anti-Trump wave,” the WaPo states.

To recap: The Washington Post thinks a person in our country illegally and driving drunk (at least the two times he was caught) should be given even more benefits simply because he’s a great dance teacher. Careful, your bias is showing.
