Regarding Archbishop Cordileone's not "doing" anything: the problem is that the Pope has pretty much ordered the bishops NOT to excommunicate politicians who promote abortion. Archbishop Cordileone is in a very difficult spot.

No he is not. He must do what God would want him to do, not a heretical Pope. So, if he loses his life of luxury, so be it. He will have that mansion in Heaven that we are all promised to have. This life is short. Eternity, IS for eternity.

I doubt that "a life of luxury" is what is on his mind. He is making a prudential judgement for the good of his archdiocese. Granted, it may turn out to be the WRONG judgement in the final analysis, or it may turn out to be the right judgement for this moment. In either case, I think he is acting in good faith.

Sorry, he is not acting in good faith. He has known for many years what Nancy is all about. He could have even excommunicated her privately, even though when someone is publicly against the Church Teachings they are to be publicly excommunicated and he didn't. So now it festers in the minds of Catholics who do not accept what he is not doing. He is cowardly Bishop, just like the rest of them. Talk is cheap, action is necessary. It is long, long overdue. So, now we have all of the evil of the Demoncrap party making all of the mortally sinful laws.

As a counterpoint, it's worth noting a couple things:

1.) The Pope's request is very recent. Nancy Pelosi's behaviour as a politician, however, has been going on for decades. Meaning, an excommunication could have been done a long time ago.
2.) The Pope's request is not canonically binding. Each individual bishop has the legitimate canonical authority to publicly declare an excommunication.

As an example of number 2, consider the former bishop of Lincoln, NE, Fabian Bruskewitz. In 1996 he issued a decree of excommunication for anyone in his diocese who belonged to certain groups such as Call to Action. Rome upheld the decree when it was challenged because it was a legitimate exercise of his powers as the local bishop.

                        Permit me to respond:
                        1. The Pope's request is not a "request". It's clerical speak for "You'd better heed me!" Yes, this is recent, but the U.S. hierarchy has been dominated influential personalities for many decades, personalities who do not have morality as a priority, and who are quiet ready to attack, via back channels, anyone who dares to speak up.
                        2. Canonically, you are correct. However, this Papacy is not ruled by law, it seems.

Thank you, Church Militant, for The Download. Excellent program. I wish there were at least three panelists--I think it would make for more vibrant discussions--but I love the program content, which is always well researched and delivered. Peace be with you.

To ignore the truth of life is idiocy or evil.

Nancy Pelosi is a hypocrite when she says she is prolife. Nancy has not posted bills that would give medical care to those babies who survive abortion. It has come up to vote many times and she refuse to post it for a vote. Those babies are out of the womb and it is not a "woman body" now. Those babies die for a lack of medical care.

Good discussion, gentlemen. I like Paul's comment around 6:02, "If you are an honest atheist, you would be a fervent pro-lifer because you know, from science, that the human being begins at the moment of their conception."
