St. Jerome and the necessity of knowing the Bible.
Good discussion. Just a minor critique. Around 7:20, Paul talks about the Church's lack of competency in regards to science. It's clear enough that Paul is speaking about the natural sciences here and not science, per se. That stated, the distinction is important enough to mention. The reason being is that not all science is material. For example, in the tradition of St. Thomas Aquinas, the Church recognizes theology as a science. And under the broad category of theology, there are sub-sciences such as moral theology and scripture. All three - theology, moral theology, and scripture - fall under the proper competency of the Church to comment on.
St. John Paul II in his great encyclical on faith and reason, Fides et ratio, recognized a true unity among science, philosophy, and theology. One of the keys to this unity is the science of metaphysics. Another key is the overarching sense of wisdom (aka, sapiential horizon) that authentically connects all truth.
Yes, the suffix '–ology' indicates it's a science in the broad sense of the term. And theology is indeed, as Aquinas states, the queen of all sciences – since its object is God rather than His creation. But you were correct, "science" in the show was used with its contemporary narrow meaning, i.e. the 'hard' natural sciences.
very appreciative of this show and these 2 men.......even the technical people who i saw at the end seem to love their work..........what a true blessing this network is.......and why not.......its leadership and especially that its patron is St. Michael the Archangel.....every place i've ever been on this website is all truth that is relayed by people of faith.........what a relief!!!
I never had much trust for the government, the media, or the medical field. One of my science professors in college said, "Once you finish the science program, half of all the students will change their doctor." Since all that has happened with the vaccine restrictions by government, the medical field and media propaganda, I am even more convinced they are never to be trusted, ever. Being a progressive liberal is a serious sin in my opinion.
