Rep. Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) made her move for leadership, and she was defeated.
With Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) headed over to the House Judiciary Committee and being installed as the ranking member, AOC made a run at the House Oversight Committee ranking member.
Former Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) decided to block her and managed to get a member of the old guard installed, and the media just about had a cardiac over it.
The Meltdown
This entire thing was orchestrated by Pelosi.
From the reports I saw, Pelosi was pushing for Rep. Nadler (D-N.Y.) to drop out of the leadership race so Raskin could take over the committee.
Nadler caved, endorsed Raskin, which opened the door for AOC to run for leadership of the Oversight Committee.
In steps Pelosi again, burning up the phone lines behind the scenes to get Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-VA) installed.
And what do you know, AOC lost the fight, and another establishment Democrat is in leadership at the age of 74 rather than a younger and up-and-coming member of the party, all because Pelosi is clearly upset over all the attention AOC gets.
This is our political world, but the media went ballistic over it.
Co-host of “The View,” Sunny Hostin stated, “She’s been demonized as this too progressive, far-left person, and I want to try to set the record straight because if she is too progressive, then the Democrats really are going to lose the working class because this is her platform.
“The key issues: healthcare for all people, affordable housing, rebuild the unions, federal job guarantee, free public college. … If that is too progressive for this country, then that’s a problem for the Democrats, and that’s a problem, quite frankly, for this country.”
Is AOC ready for leadership? Probably not, but you guys all know how I feel about these old heads in Congress running the show when they clearly cannot relate to the average American.
Until Pelosi is gone, this will continue to be the case, however.
