Throughout the many episodes of persecution, Jews have remembered the
critical message of this verse: The suffering of the Jewish people will not be
eternal. Already in the days of Moses, God assured his people that though they
may face wrath and anger, though God may send nations to oppress them, they are
always God’s chosen nation. The suffering will come to an end, and God will
redeem His people: “And yet for all that, when they are in the land of their
enemies, I will not reject them, neither will I abhor them, to destroy them
utterly, and to break My covenant with them; for I am the Lord, their God”
(Leviticus 26:44). Get a FREE download of the full Book of Lamentations
