Today is the ninth of the Hebrew month of Av, the day on which we mourn the
destruction of the Holy Temple in Jerusalem. Jeremiah is known as the prophet of
destruction as his duty was to warn the people to change their ways and return
to God, lest the Temple be destroyed. Today's verse contains Jeremiah's first
vision that he shares with the Jewish Nation. Interestingly, his first vision
is not of rebuke, rather, Jeremiah's first prophetic vision is of God's longing
for His people, and His memories of how they were to Him as a bride and followed
Him blindly into the desert. This serves as a reminder that whatever punishment
may be meted out, God loves His people and desires a relationship with them.
With the destruction of the Holy Temple, the meeting place of God and his
beloved was destroyed. The Temple Mount Heritage Foundation strives to educate
and facilitate the rebuilding of the glorious Temple so that the bride-groom
relationship can be reinstated in its proper home.
