New Zealand: Police department welcomes imam who called Jews “the enemy” for Ramadan event
Anwar Sahib was removed from Federation of Islamic Associations in 2016 for anti-Semitic remarks. But the Counties Manukau Police department had no problem welcoming him for Ramadan. And one can sympathize: it is very, very hard indeed to find an imam who doesn’t have some kind of spot on his record, and so if outreach is the imperative, even a Jew-hater will have to do.
In response to the article below, the police issued a statement full of usual blather: “Counties Manukau Police hosted the Ramadan event last week to foster better understanding of our growing Muslim community and to embrace the diverse communities that make up our society, with diversity being a core value of NZ Police. The Ramadan Iftar ceremony was an inclusive event and invitations were given out to all Islamic centres and Muslim organisations in our District, along with a number of service providers and race relations officials. The invited organisations chose their own representatives to attend the event on their behalf.”
And diversity. And inclusive. And blah. And blah. What’s a little Jew-hatred among friends? We’re all multiculturalists now.
“Disgraced Mohammad Anwar Sahib made welcome by Counties Manukau police,” Whale Oil, June 11, 2018 (thanks to Carl):
It is appalling that a man like Dr Anwar Sahib should be treated with respect by both the police and a member of the Human Rights Commission given his recent anti-Semitic history. We have written extensively about Dr Anwar Sahib. We were the first media in New Zealand to break the story that eventually led to him losing his position as secretary of FIANZ. For those of you who have forgotten what he did, here is a quick recap.Sahib is the Imam who called Jews the enemy and said women shouldn’t leave the house without their husband’s permission. These are comments that he has not apologised for.In fact when the story first broke he claimed that he had been quoted out of context. The incriminating videos were then removed by his mosque so that no one could see what context they were said in.Fortunately, Whaleoil had anticipated the cover-up and had made copies which you can view here. Our videos include one that shows that a Muslim woman went to the New Zealand Herald with an accusation that terrorism was being promoted at Sahib’s mosque. Instead of protecting their source, the New Zealand Herald journalist allowed Dr Anwar Sahib to learn her name and phone number….
