Whoopi Shocks Panel, Defends Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer From Leftist Attacks

54
Of all the people who pushed back against HuffPost this week for labeling the holiday TV classic “Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer” problematic because of its alleged racism, homophobia and bullying, nobody expected that she’d be its fiercest defender.
During a spiel Thursday on “The View,” far-left commentator Whoopi Goldberg slammed the politically correct notion that there’s something wrong with the classic.
“Where’s the problem?” she angrily noted. “The hero, he’s a kid that nobody believes in and suddenly they realize he is special. He is who he is for a reason. And he becomes the hero. Where’s the problem? It’s Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer.”
Listen:
The controversy over the TV classic began Wednesday when the very politically correct HuffPost shared a video to Twitter titled “Rudolph, The Marginalized Reindeer.”
The video complained about the cartoon film’s “problematic” racism, homophobia and bullying by highlighting tweets from various Twitter users upset over the 54-year-old cartoon’s alleged bigotry and insensitivity.
“The video begins with a scene from the cartoon in which other reindeer bully Rudolph by calling him names such as ‘fire snout,’ ‘rainbow puss’ and ‘red schnoz,'” BizPac Review reported.
“A caption then announces that while the cartoon ‘is a holiday classic that returns to TV each holiday season … viewers are noticing the tale may not be so jolly after all and they’re sharing their observations online.'”
Watch:
According to far-left extremists on Twitter, the classic “is a parable on racism & homophobia,” Santa Clause is “a bigoted exploitative prick” and Clause’s operation is “in serious need of diversity and inclusion training.”
Note that these are the same sorts of extremists who believe President Donald Trump and his supporters, many of whom are non-white, are white supremacists who hate minorities.
“Former fans are pointing out Rudolph’s father verbally abuses him,” the video notes. “Santa berates Donner for his son’s nose. The school coach encourages bullying. Donner forbids his wife from joining the search for their son. Clarice’s Dad is a bigot. Even the elf is an outcast for wanting to be a dentist.”
As noted by Whoopi, however, this is a false interpretation of the film rooted in political correctness and victimhood culture, not in the reality of what the classic is actually about.
The film is supposed to be about a bullied and marginalized Rudolph becoming a hero through his actions. But instead the far-left has seized on the tribulations the character faces early on in the film to cry victim.
Look:
Whoopi was also displeased with the false narrative that Santa Clause exploited or “used” Rudolph.
“You know, what he may be using him for his nose because Santa knows no one else in the North Pole can help,” she said. “And he’s got to get those toys to the kids. And what’s more important to Santa than getting the kids toys? Rudolph’s safety. Getting it all done safe.”
Some would call this common sense, something that’s rarely seen on the left, let alone on the usually radical program known as “The View.”
