Abortionist Loses His License After Improperly Prescribing Drugs, Can Never Kill Babies Again
Ohio’s longest-practicing abortionist lost his license Nov. 14 after he allegedly broke prescription drug laws, according to state documents.
Columbus abortionist Harley Blank, 79, has been accused of wrong-doing multiple times during his decades-long abortion practice.
The Columbus Dispatch reports Blank recently agreed to surrender his medical license rather than face disciplinary proceedings for alleged prescription drug violations.
According to the state order, Blank allegedly violated state laws by “failing to keep any charts or patient records” on the men to whom he prescribed the drugs.
Blank worked at Founder’s Women’s Health Center, an abortion facility in Columbus, and other abortion facilities in the state. According to the report, he became known as the first abortionist to legally abort an unborn baby in Ohio in 1973. The Planned Parenthood abortion chain gave Blank an award in 2012 for his work.

Blank was first issued a license on Aug. 25, 1964. He performed Ohio’s first legal abortion on Feb. 15, 1973 in Columbus.He told The Dispatch in 1998 that he never regretted his decision to perform that abortion: “It was right then, it’s right today and it will be right tomorrow.”Efforts by The Dispatch to reach him on Wednesday for comment were unsuccessful. A voicemail left for his attorney was not returned.
Previously, Blank also faced a medical malpractice lawsuit involving a patient’s botched abortion. As LifeNews previously reported, Blank was sued in 2013 for allegedly failing to diagnose an ectopic pregnancy and performing an abortion on the woman anyway. Afterward, the woman said she suffered a uterine rupture and now cannot bear any children.
Greater Columbus Right to Life celebrated the end of Blank’s dangerous abortion work this week.
“We have known for a considerable amount of time that Founder’s is not a safe place for women or their unborn children, and we have observed increasingly erratic behavior on the part of Dr. Blank, who joins another Founder’s abortion provider – who is currently serving time in federal prison for child pornography – as having his medical license permanently revoked,” the pro-life group wrote on its blog.
The pro-life group said it requested documents from the state to learn more about why Blank lost his license.
