OCASIO-CORTEZ SHARES ‘INSURANCE’ LETTER TO ARGUE FOR SINGLE-PAYER HEALTHCARE – IT BACKFIRED BADLY

Ocasio-Cortez Shares ‘Insurance’ Letter To Argue For Single-Payer Healthcare – It Backfired Badly

29
New York Democratic Rep.-elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez recently attempted to make her case for single-payer healthcare and it backfired badly.
Earlier this week, the 29-year-old socialist tweeted out an image of a letter that she claims was sent to a woman seeking a heart transplant.
The letter stated that the woman had been denied healthcare “due to needing a more secure financial plan.”
It went on to suggest the woman start a “fundraising effort” to secure the $10,000 she needed for the surgery, and even mentioned using GoFundMe to help her situation.
Ocasio-Cortez, rushing for attention rather than doing any research, took to Twitter and slammed the “insurance” agency while advocating for the “Medicare for all” plan she supports.
“Insurance groups are recommending GoFundMe as official policy – where customers can die if they can’t raise the goal in time – but sure, single payer healthcare is unreasonable,” she wrote.
One of the issues is that the letter was not from an insurance group, but rather from Spectrum Health’s Heart and Lung Specialized Care Clinics in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
According to the group’s website, they provide specialty care and offer second opinions when “all other options have been exhausted.”
The letter also does not indicate whether the requested surgery was exempt from insurance protection.
But Ocasio-Cortez didn’t wait for all of the facts and immediately assumed that the woman’s problem would magically go away if single-payer healthcare was implemented.
Several people lashed out at the young socialist on Twitter and educated her that some Medicare and Obamacare insurance packages have a $10,000 deductible, meaning a person may still be required to raise money to cover the cost.
Two recent studies revealed that the “Medicare for all” plan Ocasio-Cortez supports could literally bankrupt the United States over time.
According to a study from the Mercatus Center at George Mason University, the socialized medicine plan would increase government health care spending by $32.6 trillion over 10 years.
The study revealed that the federal government would have to impose unprecedented tax increases across the board to pay for “free” medicare for everyone in the United States.
A second study from Vox.com found that the entitlement programs would roughly cost the United States a jaw-dropping $218 trillion over the next 30 years.
Both studies found that socialized medicine would skyrocket the demand for medical care, drive up spending, result in other government programs not receiving funding, and could result in a total economic collapse.
When she’s not being busted for spreading fake news on Twitter or making embarrassing gaffes, Ocasio-Cortez also supports a variety of other controversial policies and issues.
When she’s not openly calling for other Democrats to support her plans for socialism in America, she is calling for ICE to be abolished, President Donald Trump to be impeached, the minimum wage to be raised to $15/hr nationally, and government-sponsored “free” medicare and college tuitionfor everyone.
