On Thursday, Alexandria Ocasio Cortez applauded her fellow Congresswoman, Michigan Democrat Rashida Tlaib for calling Republican Mark Meadows a “racist” for bringing former Trump associate Lynne Patton to Cohen’s testimony.
Patton is an African-American woman who has nothing but good things to say about the President.
In the confrontation between Meadows and Tlaib, Meadows fired back at Tlaib after she mentioned Patton as “a prop,” saying that he has two grandchildren who are people of color and that he found Tlaib’s “prop” comment to be racist in itself.
Ocasio Cortez took to Twitter to praise Tlaib about her “bravery” and even called Patton a “token.” Check out what she tweeted below:
Total bravery from @RashidaTlaib as she reminds the nation that tokenism *is* racismRashida Tlaib told GOP Rep. Meadows that using a Black Trump employee as a ‘prop’ to show Trump isn’t racist was a racist act in itself — he responded by demanding her words be struck from the record, nearly in tears.
Are you kidding me?
Why is Ocasio Cortez applauding a someone who called a black woman “a prop?”
If this were a Republican in Congress who called a person of color “a prop” they would certainly be receiving major backlash from the Left.
But since it’s a Democrat, it is applauded.
According to Tlaib, having a black woman speak on Trump’s behalf is “racist in itself.”
After being called out on her outlandish words by Meadows, Tlaib eventually apologized for what she said.
Check out the summary below of how the events unfolded.
Wednesday’s House Oversight Committee hearing involving President Trump’s former lawyer Michael Cohen featured heated words after Tlaib accused “someone” of bringing a Trump-supporting black woman along to the hearing as a “prop” – an act she said was “racist in itself.”Meadows had invited Lynne Patton, an African-American Trump family friend now working at the Department of Housing and Development, and challenged Cohen’s depiction of Trump as a racist, saying that there was no way that Patton “would work for an individual who’s a racist.”Stung by Tlaib’s insinuation, Meadows sought to have her remarks stricken from the record. After intervention from committee chairman Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-Md.) and some toing and froing, Tlaib made an apology of sorts.“That was not my intention [to call Meadows a racist] and I do apologize if that’s what it sounded like – but I said ‘someone’ in general. And as everybody knows in this chamber I’m pretty direct so if I wanted to say that, I would have.”
Amazing how Tlaib called Patton “a prop” and how Ocasio Cortez called her a “token,” but the person being called out for being a racist is Meadows who is the only one of the three who has black grandchildren.
Apparently being racist is okay as long as you are a Democrat!
The double standard we see here seems to be a growing trend in American politics.
