Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas dropped a bombshell piece of information yesterday. While testifying before the House Appropriations Committee about the department's budget, Mayorkas announced the creation of a Disinformation Governance Board.

Church Militant's Kim Tisor has more on this so-called misinformation watchdog group that's conveniently in place ahead of the November midterms.

Alejandro Mayorkas, DHS secretary: "leading a just recently constituted misinformation, Disinformation Governance Board ... The goal is to bring the resources of the department together to address this threat."

The alleged threat he's referencing is one U.S. Rep. Lauren Underwood, a Democrat, suggests permeates elections. Underwood claims online misinformation targets minorities. It was only when she asked how Mayorkas would combat it that the DHS secretary divulged his department's clandestine creation of this board.

Within hours of the revelation, Russian expert Nina Jankowicz announced she's the new board's executive director, explaining, "Cat's out of the bag: Here's what I've been up to the past two months ... ."

Critics call Jankowicz a woke pick for overseeing misinformation. Back in 2020, she readily accepted mainstream media's popular Hunter Biden laptop narrativetelling ABC, "We should view it as a Trump campaign product."

Also concerning, this new disinformation czar is apparently no fan of free speech.

Nina Jankowicz, disinformation czar: "And I shudder to think about if free speech absolutists were taking over more platforms."

Jankowicz raised her concerns to NPR last week, as Elon Musk made headlines over plans to acquire Twitter.

Conservatives are sounding the alarm.

Sen. Tom Cotton, R-Ark.: "The DHS and, frankly, no other department or agency in government, should have something called a disinformation board."

Mayorkas didn't disclose what powers the board would have at its disposal to quell misinformation, but apparently, some things simply aren't necessary for the public to know.

Disinformation for the Biden administration, according to Sen. Cotton, consists of facts that are politically inconvenient. Cotton is urging Congress to get involved to stop the disinformation board in its tracks.
