Carl, Inflamed by global conflict and turmoil, antisemitic attacks are skyrocketing in Europe … and European Jews – older and younger – do not feel safe. According to the Netherlands’ Chief Rabbi Binyomin Jacobs, five of his seven children have left the country: “…why should I want them to live in a country where antisemitism is thriving?” With so many of our Jewish communities at risk, we urge you to join the World Jewish Congress in our mission to combat this dramatic surge in anti-Jewish and anti-Israel hatred. Your gift to the World Jewish Congress, American Section, will be doubled to help the WJC fight back against this global escalation of antisemitism. Hatred and violence against any group can quickly spill over—however irrationally—into hatred and violence against the Jewish people. Instability anywhere can ignite antisemitism everywhere, and that is exactly what we are seeing: - In Amsterdam, in May, more than 150 people were arrested for shouting antisemitic chants at a soccer game.
- A recent survey found that Europeans are likely to believe that their Jewish neighbors are more loyal to Israel than their home country, an alarming indication that the antisemitic “dual loyalty” canard is spreading.
- In Austria, the number of antisemitic incidents hit record numbers in 2022.
At the same time, deplorable antisemitic hate speech is raging across social media, featuring Holocaust imagery, conspiracy myths, and Nazi glorification. |
