(RepublicanReport.org) – On July 19, Ukraine announced that its counteroffensive strategy, which started a little over a month ago, has been a success. Although the military move is slow-going, Newsweek reported that Kyiv was seeing small gains on the front. But Ukrainian troops are moving slowly because Russians are leaving boobytraps as they retreat, making advancements tedious — and extremely dangerous.

That same day, the news outlet showed footage of a Ukrainian tank boxed in by exploding landmines — a peek into some of the issues Kyiv is seeing on advancement. Newsweek reported that Russian troops have been leaving behind fields full of mines and explosive devices inside kids’ toys, cars, mass graves, washing machines, and even live animals.

As a result, Ukrainian forces have had to use extreme caution during its counteroffensive campaign. One soldier, Roman Trokhymets, posted on social media that there were traps everywhere and that they must “go forward smartly.” Despite that, he seemed encouraged by the cautious advancement, starting his post with “Freeing Ukrainian territory!”Although the country’s President, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, said his military is moving “slower than desired,” he recently told the BBC that war is not a “Hollywood movie” and these things take time. The leader said this is reality and “people’s lives” are on the line, so it will take as long as it takes. The country’s Deputy Defense Minister Hanna Maliar admitted the advance has been a struggle — and not always successful. Russian political analyst Pavel Luzin said the Russian tactics do not pose an impossible problem if Zelenskyy’s troops use caution in reclaiming territory.
