A train carrying Republican lawmakers to their GOP retreat in West Virginia collided with a dump truck in the crossing grade on Wednesday, according to several GOP aides and lawmakers.
No major injuries have been reported on the train, but reports emerged that at least one person in the truck had died while two others sustained injuries, according to Sen. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.).
Some members on the train "hit the deck” upon impact, causing a "couple of bumps and bruises,” according to aides, though it’s unclear if members will need to seek medical treatment for their injuries.
Several lawmakers took to Twitter following the crash to let the public know they were safe.
Both House and Senate members were on board the train, though it's unclear how many.
"We are aware of the accident and are gathering information and determining what actions we'll take," a spokesperson for the National Transportation Safety Board said.
President Trump has been made aware of the crash, the White House said.
– Cristina Marcos and Jordan Fabian contributed for this report, which was updated at 12:30 p.m.
