And
the month which was turned unto them from sorrow to gladness, and from mourning into a good day; that
they should make them days of feasting and gladness, and of sending portions one to
another, and gifts to the poor.
From today's verse we learn about the special commandments that we perform
on the holiday of Purim in celebration of the drastic change of events that
turned days of grief into those of joy. On Purim we rejoice through a grand
festive meal as well as sending gift baskets to each other and donating to the
poor. There is an integral message embedded in these simple deeds; our joy
cannot be complete while our neighbor may be lacking! We are commanded to be
festive only once we have made sure that everyone is able to join in good cheer.
This Purim send an Israel365 gift basket and bring cheer to your choice of
recipient, a soldier, sick child or orphan.

This week's Torah
portion discusses the various sacrifices to be brought and procedures to be
followed when someone sins accidentally, not as a result of intent but rather
from carelessness or ignorance. Starting with the leadership and working down to
the commoner, Torah law dictates a society in which everyone owns up to their
mistakes.
