The Hebrew language has many words to describe happiness. There's the
emotion of gladness -
“simcha” שִׂמְחָה (sim-kha) - a momentary state of
elation. And then there's joy of the long term, a more constant state of
contented happiness, which is osher אֹשֶׁר (o-sher). The concept of simcha is
crucial to the holiday of purim. When a person is happy he is much more capable
of serving God, and recognizing the kindness bestowed upon the Jewish people
each day. Colel Chabad enables the neediest of Israel to attain both levels of
happiness. Their essential soup kitchens across the country offer the 'simcha'
of a full stomach, while simulataneously providing a feeling of 'osher', free
from the worry of where the next meal will come from. Bring true contentment to
those in need this Purim.
