WHY REGULARLY EATING PORK COULD BE SABOTAGING YOUR HEALTH (VIDEO)

WHY REGULARLY EATING PORK COULD BE SABOTAGING YOUR HEALTH (VIDEO)

 | March 24, 2015 14 Comments

GROWING UP IN A MOSTLY SECULAR JEWISH HOME, MOM DID MAKE BACON FOR THE FAMILY. I LOVED IT. WHEN I MARRIED AND HAD KIDS, ONE OF THEIR FAVORITE MEALS WAS PORK CHOPS, MASHED POTATOES, VEGETABLES AND APPLE SAUCE.

“And there came a voice to him, Rise, Peter; kill, and eat. But Peter said, Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten any thing that is common or unclean. And the voice spake unto him again the second time, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common.” Acts 10:13-15 (KJV)
EDITOR’S NOTE: When God in the New Testament lifted the Levitical ban on eating certain foods like shellfish and pork, that does not mean that items like pork are produced and processed in a healthy way in 2015. Renowned health researcher, Dr. Joseph Mercola, makes a compelling case why you should consider removing pork from you diet.
After doing my research for this article, I will never put pork near my mouth again…..and I mean never! For those of you who cannot live without your bacon, you probably should not continue reading. And just so everyone knows, I vetted this with reliable sources. So you pork deniers can’t say you were not warned!
My curiosity got the best of me last week, after I saw a disgusting video about pork. It showed pork chops taken out of the package and then Coke was poured over them. Disgusting little maggots made their way up to the surface of the raw pork.

According to a surprising new investigation by Consumer Reports, 69 percent of all raw pork samples tested — nearly 200 samples in total — were contaminated with the dangerous bacteria Yersinia enterocolitica, which causes fever and gastrointestinal illness with diarrhea, vomiting, and stomach cramps.
Now, I’m not sure that the video is not fake, but it did sent me on my quest for knowledge about pork consumption. First I went to mercola.com which has always been credible for all things medical. I was shocked as I began to read.

WHY I DO NOT RECOMMEND PORK – NEARLY 70 PERCENT CONTAMINATED WITH DANGEROUS PATHOGENS

By Dr. Joseph Mercola
Regardless of your spiritual beliefs, there may be good reason to carefully consider your decision to include pork as a regular part of your diet, because despite advertising campaigns trying to paint pork as a “healthy” alternative to beef, research suggests it may be hazardous to your health on multiple levels. One of the most potentially acute hazards is contamination with pathogenic bacteria.
Ground pork was more likely than pork chops to be contaminated.
The pork also tested positive for other contaminants, including the controversial drug ractopamine, which is banned in many parts of the world, including China and Europe. The drug, which was found in more than 20 percent of the samples, is used to boost growth in the animal while leaving the meat lean. Worst of all, many of the bacteria found in the pork were resistant to multiple antibiotics, making treatment, should you fall ill, all the more problematic and potentially lethal.
According to the featured report:
“We found salmonella, staphylococcus aureus, or listeria monocytogenes, more common causes of foodborne illness, in 3 to 7 percent of samples. And 11 percent harbored enterococcus, which can indicate fecal contamination and can cause problems such as urinary-tract infections.”
While Nutritionally Sound, Pork is Probably Still Best Avoided
Pork is an arguably “healthy” meat from a biochemical perspective, and if consumed from a humanely raised pastured hog like those on Joel Salatins’ farm and prepared properly, there is likely minimal risk of infection. However, virtually all of the pork you’re likely to consume do not fit these criteria. [1] – source
Then I searched for more evidence. Surprisingly, someone had done a piece (no pun intended) on this subject on Psychology Today:

IS PORK STILL DANGEROUS?

Did Leviticus get it right? Pork may still be dangerous. If we were to rank popular meats by their healthfulness, the order would be (1) fish and shellfish, (2) ruminants (beef, lamb, goat), and (3) birds (duck, chicken, turkey). In last place would be pork.
Of course, the ancient Hebrews were forbidden to eat pork, and it’s commonly assumed that health concerns were behind the prohibition. Commenter George Henderson prompted us to look into the modern case for avoiding pork with this comment:  “Nanji and Bridges identified possible problems with pork plus moderate alcohol in 1985 and other researchers have confirmed the pattern since.”

PORK CONSUMPTION AND LIVER CIRRHOSIS

Pork consumption has a strong epidemiological association with cirrhosis of the liver. Startlingly, pork may be even more strongly associated with alcoholic cirrhosis than alcohol itself!
The evidence was summarized by Francis Bridges in a recent (2009) paper building on earlier work by Nanji and French. A relation between pork consumption and cirrhosis of the liver is apparent across countries and has been consistently maintained for at least 40 years.
Here is the correlation between pork consumption and mortality from liver cirrhosis in 2003: The correlation coefficient of 0.83 is extremely high – rarely seen in epidemiology. Correlation coefficients range from -1.0 to 1.0, and a coefficient of 1.0 would indicate that cirrhosis mortality was strictly proportional to pork consumption. The very low p-value confirms the statistical association.
Here is the relation between alcohol consumption and mortality from liver cirrhosis: The correlation coefficient is lower than for pork consumption. In epidemiological studies, beef, lamb, and pork are often grouped together as “red meat.” However, this may conceal differences between pork and the ruminant meats. Bridges found that beef actually appeared protective against cirrhosis:
In the present study using 2003 data, a significant negative association between dietary beef and rates of cirrhosis mortality was found. Dietary beef may be a protective factor regarding the parthenogenesis of alcoholic cirrhosis.
This would be consistent with considerable evidence, discussed in our book (pp 57-58), showing that saturated fat is protective against liver disease, while polyunsaturated fat causes it. Epidemiological data confirms that saturated fat is protective; here is Bridges again
Analysis of data from 17 countries indicated that diets high in cholesterol and saturated fat protected (i.e., inversely correlated) against alcoholic cirrhosis while polyunsaturated fats promoted (positively correlated) cirrhosis.
Beef is high in saturated fat, low in polyunsaturated fat. Pork is relatively high in polyunsaturated fat. If the fat composition is playing a role, perhaps it is not that surprising that pork is more strongly related to cirrhosis than alcohol.
Either fructose or alcohol can react with polyunsaturated fat to produce liver disease. Sugar consumption, for example in soft drinks, may be just as likely to combine with pork to cause a cirrhotic liver as alcohol. But no other common dietary component can substitute for the role of polyunsaturated fat in causing liver disease.
Here is Nanji and French summarizing the correlation of pork with liver disease even in the absence of alcohol: In countries with low alcohol consumption, no correlation was obtained between alcohol consumption and cirrhosis. However, a significant correlation was obtained between cirrhosis and pork. A similar relationship was seen in the ten Canadian provinces, where there was no correlation between cirrhosis mortality and alcohol consumption, but a significant correlation was obtained with pork. [2] – source
But fat composition is hardly likely to be the sole issue with pork. Most polyunsaturated fats in modern diets are derived from vegetable oils, not pork. It seems that there must be something else in pork besides polyunsaturated fat that is causing liver disease.

PORK AND LIVER CANCER

We would expect that if pork can cause liver cirrhosis it will also promote liver cancer, since injured and inflamed tissues are more likely to become cancerous. Indeed, there is an association between pork consumption and the primary liver cancer, hepatocellular carcinoma.
Nanji and French write: The authors investigated the possibility that dietary fat, meat, beef, and pork consumption might be factors that would, in addition to alcohol, correlate with mortality from hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in different countries. The correlation between HCC and alcohol was 0.40 (p < 0.05); that with pork consumption was also 0.40 (p < 0.05). There was no correlation with total fat meat, beef, and cigarette and tobacco consumption. The correlation with pork consumption is as strong as that for alcohol. Beef has no relation at all liver cancer. Another way of looking at the data is based on countries with low and high incidence of HCC. In countries with a high incidence of HCC (more than 3 per 100,000), compared to countries with a low incidence, alcohol consumption was higher by 128%, and pork consumption was higher by 68%.
However, pork was not a marker for animal food or fat consumption. Fat consumption was actually inversely associated with HCC: high incidence countries ate 12% less fat than low incidence countries.

PORK AND MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS

Nanji and Norad looked for other diseases that correlate with pork consumption, and hit upon multiple sclerosis. The connection is remarkable: A significant correlation was obtained between prevalence of multiple sclerosis and … pork consumption (r = 0.87, p less than 0.001). There was no significant correlation with beef consumption.
As noted earlier, a correlation coefficient of 0.87 is extremely high, and a p-value below 0.001 also shows a very strong relationship. MS is much more likely to befall pork eaters. Such a strong correlation makes it look like pork, or something found in pork, is the cause of MS.
Nanji and Norad further note that beef, the “other red meat,” is not associated with MS: The correlation between pork consumption and MS prevalence was highly significant. Also, of major significance was the absence of a significant correlation between MS prevalence and beef consumption. This is consistent with the observations that MS is rare in countries where pork is forbidden by religious customs (e.g. Middle East) and has a low prevalence in countries where beef consumption far exceeds pork consumption (e.g. Brazil, Australia).
Lauer verified the pork-MS link, but found it to be characteristic of processed pork: When quantitative data are taken into account, and a combined factor “smoked meat” or “smoked pork” is formed, the association is very high throughout. This factor is also compatible with the high risk of multiple sclerosis in Scotland and particularly in the Orkney and Shetland Islands and with the only transitorily high incidence in the Faroe Islands, whereas coffee can hardly explain both epidemiological features. Arguments for the biological plausibility of some agents occurring in smoked and cured meat (in particular nitrophenol haptens and their protein conjugates) have been put forward. There appears at present to be no plausibility for the factor “margarine”, which was also not compatible with the temporal pattern of multiple sclerosis in the Faroe Islands.
Conclusion: There are remarkably strong correlations between pork consumption and liver disease, liver cancer, and multiple sclerosis. What can be behind those relationships? The relatively high omega-6 fat content of pork may be a contributing factor, but it can’t be the whole story. It seems there is something else in pork that makes pork consumption risky.[2] – source
So, as for me and my house, we will never eat pork again. This has nothing to do with being under the law. It has everything to do with not wanting to eat food that makes us sick!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Born into a Jewish family in Maryland, I was always searching for the truth about Jesus. I knew that He had to be someone so very special. My dad would say "He was a good man, but not who he said he was." So a good man would lie? At the age of 31, I finally met Yeshua, and He became my Lord and Savior. I am a Jew who has been made complete in Him. I am now anxiously awaiting His Glorious return to rapture His church! Maranatha!

When did God lift the ban on unclean foods?
  2. In the New Testament. He told Peter in Acts that he could eat anything he wanted to eat. And the Holy Spirit through Paul said the same thing. But at the same time, he also gave the admonition that if you have a Christian brother or sister that is grieved or offended by what you are eating, then we are to show the love of Christ and not eat that in front of them.
“I know, and am persuaded by the Lord Jesus, that there is nothing unclean of itself: but to him that esteemeth any thing to be unclean, to him it is unclean. But if thy brother be grieved with thy meat, now walkest thou not charitably. Destroy not him with thy meat, for whom Christ died.” Romans 14:14,15 KJV

God did not do away with the food law’s all of that comes by way of false doctrine and the twisting of scripture
  5. Michelle says:
I don’t think we have the same problems with pork products in New Zealand, and it’s a very economical meat here, too.
  6. Jeffrey Head says:
Yahweh was perfect and didn’t make mistakes. He said certain things were unclean. The passages in the New Testament were misinterpreted. The one about “It’s not what goes in your mouth that makes you unclean” was revering to the ritualistic hand washing they did, not the meat. The one about the vision Peter had was referring to the Gentiles being considered clean, not the meat.
    • Michael says:
Thats right. People pick and choose verses to prove their own doctrine. God stated his statutes and meant them forever. There are no texts in the bible that changed the food laws and no texts that changed the Sabbath and Feast days, in fact if mainstream kept these things they’d understand that Jesus doesn’t come as a thief in the night, only to those walking in darkness as is explained in scripture. It amazes me how people pick and choose verse out of context to defend wrong and misunderstood doctrine because someone taught them that somewhere and they trust it. We are told, do not trust doctrine and tradition of men. Pagan holidays are another one. Oh, God just loves it when you celebrate him in pagan ways! Wow!
  7. jean perkins says:
Jeerey Head, you are absolutely correct, those passage are misinterpreted.
  8. Michael says:
The ban on eating foods was never lifted. When you read Peters dream in context, it’s about gentiles becoming saved, if you keep reading after the dream it has nothing to do with food itself, it’s about God making gentiles saved through Christ that all peoples are accepted as Gods people, he used food to describe the gentiles as unclean food but now they are accepted, not that all foods are acceptable.
    • Aprill says:
Exactly! One just needs to keep reading the text and the dream is explained. It has nothing to do with food! It was a Rabbinic tradition (not Torah) that said a Jew could not be around a Gentile because they were thought to be unclean. Yeshua tells Peter not to call unclean what God has made clean (going against Rabbinic tradition). Look at verse 28–it explains the dream and it was not about food!! Peter then goes to meet Cornelius and his family and the entire household is saved.

      Peter’s Vision Acts 10:9-48
9 About noon the following day as they were on their journey and approaching the city, Peter went up on the roof to pray. 10 He became hungry and wanted something to eat, and while the meal was being prepared, he fell into a trance. 11 He saw heaven opened and something like a large sheet being let down to earth by its four corners. 12 It contained all kinds of four-footed animals, as well as reptiles and birds. 13 Then a voice told him, “Get up, Peter. Kill and eat.”
14 “Surely not, Lord!” Peter replied. “I have never eaten anything impure or unclean.”
15 The voice spoke to him a second time, “Do not call anything impure that God has made clean.”
16 This happened three times, and immediately the sheet was taken back to heaven.
17 While Peter was wondering about the meaning of the vision, the men sent by Cornelius found out where Simon’s house was and stopped at the gate. 18 They called out, asking if Simon who was known as Peter was staying there.
19 While Peter was still thinking about the vision, the Spirit said to him, “Simon, three[a] men are looking for you. 20 So get up and go downstairs. Do not hesitate to go with them, for I have sent them.”
21 Peter went down and said to the men, “I’m the one you’re looking for. Why have you come?”
22 The men replied, “We have come from Cornelius the centurion. He is a righteous and God-fearing man, who is respected by all the Jewish people. A holy angel told him to ask you to come to his house so that he could hear what you have to say.” 23 Then Peter invited the men into the house to be his guests.
      Peter at Cornelius’s House
The next day Peter started out with them, and some of the believers from Joppa went along. 24 The following day he arrived in Caesarea. Cornelius was expecting them and had called together his relatives and close friends. 25 As Peter entered the house, Cornelius met him and fell at his feet in reverence. 26 But Peter made him get up. “Stand up,” he said, “I am only a man myself.”
27 While talking with him, Peter went inside and found a large gathering of people. 28 He said to them: “You are well aware that it is against our law for a Jew to associate with or visit a Gentile. But God has shown me that I should not call anyone impure or unclean. 29 So when I was sent for, I came without raising any objection. May I ask why you sent for me?”
30 Cornelius answered: “Three days ago I was in my house praying at this hour, at three in the afternoon. Suddenly a man in shining clothes stood before me 31 and said, ‘Cornelius, God has heard your prayer and remembered your gifts to the poor. 32 Send to Joppa for Simon who is called Peter. He is a guest in the home of Simon the tanner, who lives by the sea.’ 33 So I sent for you immediately, and it was good of you to come. Now we are all here in the presence of God to listen to everything the Lord has commanded you to tell us.”
34 Then Peter began to speak: “I now realize how true it is that God does not show favoritism 35 but accepts from every nation the one who fears him and does what is right. 36 You know the message God sent to the people of Israel, announcing the good news of peace through Jesus Christ, who is Lord of all. 37 You know what has happened throughout the province of Judea, beginning in Galilee after the baptism that John preached— 38 how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how he went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with him.
39 “We are witnesses of everything he did in the country of the Jews and in Jerusalem. They killed him by hanging him on a cross, 40 but God raised him from the dead on the third day and caused him to be seen. 41 He was not seen by all the people, but by witnesses whom God had already chosen—by us who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead. 42 He commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that he is the one whom God appointed as judge of the living and the dead. 43 All the prophets testify about him that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name.”
44 While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit came on all who heard the message. 45 The circumcised believers who had come with Peter were astonished that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out even on Gentiles. 46 For they heard them speaking in tongues[b] and praising God.
Then Peter said, 47 “Surely no one can stand in the way of their being baptized with water. They have received the Holy Spirit just as we have.” 48 So he ordered that they be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then they asked Peter to stay with them for a few days.
  9. John says:
Very informative article. I eat very little pork, mainly because it was prohibited in OT for most likely dietary reasons and because hogs are so nasty in general. That being said, I love the taste of it. I recently had some wild hog meat we actually killed in the woods and it was good, but I probably won’t eat anymore for a while. These same prohibitions/caveats probably apply to catfish, shrimp, crawfish, etc.
  10. matai says:
Read Leviticus 11 and Deuteronomy 14 and we will know what we should and shouldn’t eat
  11. Donna says:
God has NOT changed His mind about swine (pig) being permissible to eat now that Jesus Christ has shed His precious blood for us based on this end-time Scripture in the Book of Isaiah Chapter 66 which is talking about true and false worship. The prophet Isaiah specifically refers to eating swine’s flesh and the abomination in Isaiah 66:17 below which is specifically talking about the reign and the indignation of God in the end days! Isaiah says that those who practice these things will be consumed (perish) together! Moreover, based on Isaiah 65:3-4 below, those who practice these ABOMINABLE things to the Lord are defiling their vessels—their bodies in which the Spirit of God now dwells!
“A people who provoke Me to anger continually to My face; Who sacrifice in gardens, And burn incense on altars of brick; Who sit among the graves, And spend the night in the tombs; WHO EAT SWINE’S FLESH, And the broth of ABOMINABLE THINGS is IN THEIR VESSELS…” ~ Isaiah 65:3-4 (NKJV)
“Those who sanctify themselves and purify themselves, To go to the gardens After AN IDOL in the midst, EATING SWINE’S FLESH and THE ABOMINATION and the mouse, SHALL BE CONSUMED [perish] TOGETHER,” says the LORD.” ~ Isaiah 66:17 (NKJV)
Therefore, I am being led to ask you a serious question to consider. If sacrificing a pig on the altar in the temple of God to the false god Zeus caused the abomination of desolation to occur in history, then why do we think that us eating the flesh of swine is now permissible?
Especially, given the fact that under the New Covenant disciples of Jesus Christ are a living sacrifice and on the altar of our hearts is where the Ark of the Covenant—the manifest presence of the Holy Spirit, Christ IN us dwells! Hence, our bodies are the temple of the Living God!
If in fact, God has NOT changed His mind about pigs being unclean and they still are NOT permissible for us to eat based on His law in Leviticus 11:7-8 and Deuteronomy 14:8; and the prophet Isaiah speaks specifically about eating the flesh of swine in Isaiah 65:3-4 and Isaiah 66:17 above, which are end-time Scriptures, then wouldn’t we be defiling the temple of the Living God (our bodies) and thus be committing the abomination of desolation every time that we eat unclean foods such as pork or commit sexual immorality based on the specific abominations to the Lord as detailed in Leviticus 18, especially since those who practice these ABOMINATIONS to the Lord have and I quote—“the broth of ABOMINABLE THINGS is IN THEIR VESSELS”?
And, before you quote Acts 10:9-33 about Peter’s vision of an object like a great sheet bound at the four corners, descending to him and being let down to the earth that in it were all kinds of four-footed animals of the earth, wild beasts, creeping things, and birds of the air, this vision that Peter had was about one thing ONLY—that God was now offering salvation to the Gentiles.
In fact, God sent Peter to preach about the gospel of the Kingdom to Cornelius’ household right after he received the vision. Furthermore, Peter gives the reason for the vision he was given by God when Peter says in Acts 10:28 (NKJV) “You know how unlawful it is for a Jewish man to keep company with or go to one of another nation. BUT GOD HAS SHOWN ME that I should NOT call any MAN COMMON OR UNCLEAN.”
In addition, in Acts 10:14 Peter said after he saw the vision and did not yet understand what the vision he was given was all about salvation being offered to the Gentiles who the Jews avoided like the plague, it was then that Peter said, “Not so, Lord! For I have NEVER eaten anything common or unclean.”
Therefore, why did Peter say this? Peter said this because the animals that Peter saw on the sheet were unclean animals and Peter was given this vision over a decade after Jesus Christ died on the cross. So if Jesus did in fact claim that all foods, even the unclean foods based on God’s law, were now permissible to eat as many teach and believe according to Mark 7:14-15 below, then we must ask ourselves the question of, “Why is Peter saying that he has NEVER eaten anything common or unclean?” Peter and the other disciples, who were Jewish, walked with Jesus and they would have been told by Jesus if God changed His mind saying that unclean animals were now permissible to eat! Yet, ten years after Jesus died, was resurrected and ascended to heaven, the apostle Peter is still saying that he has NEVER eaten anything common or unclean.
Furthermore, concerning what Jesus said in Mark 7:14-15 below. First of all if you read this passage of Scripture in CONTEXT Jesus refers back to the Law of Moses when He talks about honoring our father and our mother in Mark 7:10. Then, in Mark 7:13 Jesus tells the Pharisees and the scribes, that they are making the Word of God of no effect THROUGH their TRADITION which they have handed down to the people rather than following the Law of Moses, which includes the dietary laws that Yahweh established in the Law of Moses as well! In addition, because Jesus was talking to the people in front of the teachers of the law—the Pharisees and scribes, who knew what the dietary restrictions were based on the Torah. As such, if Jesus was saying that all food was now permissible to eat, which He was not, they would have lynched Him on the spot!
“When He had called all the multitude to Himself, He said to them, “Hear Me, everyone, and understand: There is nothing THAT ENTERS A MAN FROM OUTSIDE WHICH CAN DEFILE HIM; but the things WHICH COME OUT OF HIM, THOSE ARE THE THINGS THAT DEFILE A MAN.” ~ Mark 7:14-15 (NKJV)
Second of all based on what Jesus said in Mark 7:14-15 above and Mark 7:18-20 below, it is all about what is in our heart. Therefore, if we know what God’s law says, yet we do not do what we know is right according to the whole counsel of His Word, then when we choose to sin against God and His Word this is what defiles a man—the intents and motives of our hearts! For God has clearly established what He requires His people to do which is based on the whole counsel of His Word!
“Do you not perceive that whatever enters a man from outside cannot defile him, because it does not enter his heart but his stomach, and is eliminated, thus purifying [purging] all foods?”And He said, “What comes out of a man, that defiles a man.” ~ Mark 7:18-20 (NKJV)
In addition, you may be thinking well what about what the apostle Paul says to us in Romans 14:2 when he proclaims, “For one believes he may eat all things, but he who is weak eats only vegetables.”
Clearly this is about us choosing to eat meat versus eating only vegetables and rest of the chapter talks about us judging one another.
Therefore, if a man does not know that he is sinning by eating the unclean animals that God tells us not to eat due to his ignorance of God’s law, then it was not in his heart to sin when he chooses to eat unclean meat even though he will reap deteriorated health conditions such as cancer and other diseases based on the curses associated with breaking God’s law listed in Deuteronomy 28.
Then in 1 Timothy 4:1-3 below, the apostle Paul specifically addresses men, not God, who are commanding us to abstain from foods which God created to be received with thanksgiving—again the apostle Paul is referring back to what God said in Deuteronomy 12:15-16 which I have already covered because he emphatically says concerning the foods which God created to be received with thanksgiving BY THOSE WHO BELIEVE and KNOW THE TRUTH. Know the truth of what? God’s laws concerning which foods we can eat versus those which we cannot eat based on what God, not man, specifically lists in Deuteronomy 14:3-21 and Leviticus 11 concerning what is permissible for us to eat versus what is not permissible for us to eat based on God’s law.
“Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons, speaking lies in hypocrisy, having their own conscience seared with a hot iron, forbidding to marry, and COMMANDING TO ABSTAIN FROM FOODS WHICH GOD CREATED TO BE RECEIVED WITH THANKSGIVING by those who believe and know the truth.” ~ 1 Timothy 4:1-3 (NKJV)
Now listen to what our heavenly Father Yahweh says to us concerning these “forbidden” foods that He specifies are “unclean” that must not be eaten by us in Leviticus 11:41-47 below. And, He also tells us the reason “why” we are not to defile our bodies with these foods in Leviticus 11:44-45 below.
“And every creeping thing that creeps on the earth shall be an abomination. It shall not be eaten. Whatever crawls on its belly, whatever goes on all fours, or whatever has many feet among all creeping things that creep on the earth—these you shall not eat, FOR THEY ARE AN ABOMINATION. You shall not MAKE YOURSELVES ABOMINABLE with any creeping thing that creeps; nor shall you make yourselves unclean with them, LEST YOU BE DEFILED BY THEM.” ~ Leviticus 11:41-43 (NKJV)
“For I am the LORD your God. YOU SHALL THEREFORE CONSECRATE YOURSELVES, AND YOU SHALL BE HOLY; FOR I AM HOLY. Neither shall you DEFILE YOURSELVES with any creeping thing that creeps on the earth. For I am the LORD who brings you up out of the land of Egypt, to be your God. YOU SHALL THEREFORE BE HOLY, FOR I AM HOLY.” ~ Leviticus 11:44-45 (NKJV)
“This is THE LAW of the animals and the birds and every living creature that moves in the waters, and of every creature that creeps on the earth, TO DISTINGUISH BETWEEN THE UNCLEAN AND THE CLEAN, and BETWEEN THE ANIMAL THAT MAY BE EATEN AND THE ANIMAL THAT MAY NOT BE EATEN.” ~ Leviticus 11:46-47 (NKJV)
And, since Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever, we should allow Him, the author and finisher of our faith, to have the last word concerning us eating foods which are unclean, forbidden and sacrificed to idols, and concerning us practicing sexual immorality that Jesus specifically mentions not once, but twice, in Revelation 2:14 and Revelation 2:20 below. Especially, since the Book of Revelation is the testimony of Jesus Christ Himself to all His people throughout the synergy of the ages, especially His end-time church.
“Nevertheless, I have a few things against you: There are some among you who hold to the teaching of Balaam, who taught Balak to entice the Israelites to sin so that they ATE FOOD SACRIFICED TO IDOLS and COMMITTED SEXUAL IMMORALITY.” ~ Revelation 2:14 (NKJV)
“Nevertheless, I have this against you: You tolerate that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophet. By her teaching she misleads my servants into SEXUAL IMMORALITY and THE EATING OF FOOD SACRIFICED TO IDOLS.” ~ Revelation 2:20 (NKJV)
Therefore, we would be wise to take notice and understand what Jesus is referring to when He specifically references foods which are sacrificed to idols.
Jesus is referencing foods which are forbidden by His heavenly Father and our heavenly Father—Yahweh based on the law of animals listed in Leviticus 11, which are still unclean and forbidden food for us to eat, some of which are also sacrificed to false idols such as Zeus when a pig was sacrificed on the altar in God’s holy temple which caused the abomination of desolation to occur. Therefore, the sons of Israel had to cleanse the temple of God from anything which defiled it during the revolt and they rededicated the temple to God to be used only for those things which were holy and undefiled for God is holy and He will not dwell in a temple which has become defiled by those things which are an abomination to Him.
Therefore, what we can glean from this historic event when the Maccabean family led a revolt against the evil ruler, Antiochus IV Epiphanes, until the Temple could be purified and its services restored for the Holy use of God once again is this.
The purpose of commemorating Hanukkah each year, which is also referred to as the Festival of Lights, which was originally referred to as the Festival of Dedication based on the Hebrew word derived from the word “to dedicate” is this. It gives us the opportunity for us to examine if there is anything that we are doing that is an abomination to the Lord that defiles our bodies which are the temple of the Living God under the New Covenant!
Because when we practice anything which is an abomination to the Lord and we use our bodies to do so, then the Light of the World—who is Jesus Christ whose Holy Spirit which dwells in our hearts will leave us—for God’s Holy Spirit will not dwell in a temple that has become defiled! Therefore, we must ask God to cleanse us from all unrighteousness based on anything that we do with our bodies that is an admonition to Him.
  12. EL OSO says:
OK I will be the first to admit i am not grounded in this subject. However, it would seem to me we were delivered from the law. If we keep a portion, of the law, should we then keep all of it?
