Iran Ships 30 Tons of Mined Uranium 'Yellow Cake' to Facility in Isfahan
Iran has sent a large batch of mined uranium “yellow cake” for processing ahead of shipment to its main enrichment facility, Iran’s state news agency reported on Wednesday in the latest sign of plans to step up its atomic activities.
Yellow cake, or uranium ore, can be further processed into enriched uranium to make fuel for nuclear power plants, Iran’s stated aim, or to provide material for atomic bombs if refined much more, which the West fears may be the Islamic Republic’s ultimate goal.
Joint U.S.-Israel’s Foundation to Invest $7.3 million in Eight Initiatives
On Jan. 8, the Israel-U.S. Binational Industrial Research and Development (BIRD) Foundation announced 7.3 million in funding for eight new collaborative projects between U.S. and Israeli companies.
In addition to BIRD grants, which are funded equally by the United States and Israel, the companies will receive private sector funding, increasing the total value to roughly $20.4 million. The approved projects boost bilateral cooperation in a myriad of fields, including homeland security collaboration.
130-strong Israeli Rescue Team Arrives in Brazil as Dam Collapse Toll Hits 58
An Israeli Defense Force search-and-rescue team landed in Brazil last Sunday evening to join forces with local rescue crews who are searching for hundreds of people missing in the wake of a catastrophic dam collapse.
According to The Times of Israel , the Civil Defense office in Minais Gerais state last Sunday raised the confirmed death toll to 58, with up to 300 people still unaccounted for following the avalanche of iron ore waste from a mine Friday.
Intel plans a $11 billion investment in a new factory in the south of Israel, Haaretz reports. The company will put in $10 billion, with a $1 billion incentive to come from the Israeli government. The deal isn’t final and will need approval from various government bodies.
