There’s no sugarcoating it.
We lost in Ohio.
Pro-abortion opposition to Issue 1 was fueled by millions of out-of-state dollars, while our side failed to unite. According to our analysis, even many pro-life-leaning Republicans voted against Issue 1 – not because they support abortion, but because they didn’t want to alter the rules for amending the Ohio state constitution.
It’s tempting to make excuses: We were outspent! OH Republicans were divided! Business groups that promised to help were MIA!
All true, but …
HARD TRUTHS: While it’s not easy to admit this to you, the fact is the pro-abortion movement is more motivated than we are right now. When abortion extremists lost their sacred cow in Roe v. Wade, many on our side thought we had won it all. And pro-abortion groups went on offense.
Yet ending Roe was just the beginning.
And today we find ourselves in a state-by-state fight where it can be easy to get discouraged.
Surrendering is not an option!
Amidst all the frustrations over recent losses, it's helpful to remember that this was always the inevitable outcome of overturning Roe, absent the Supreme Court finding a constitutional right to life for unborn children.
Each state is now permitted to defend life – or to legalize abortion – as they had done before the fateful decision in 1973.
GOOD NEWS REMINDER: Since the Dobbs decision, 15 states have passed laws or constitutional provisions that largely illegalize abortion. An additional 13 states have outlawed abortion at various stages, ranging from 6 to 24 weeks of gestation.
Regrettably, twelve states now have a so-called “constitutional” right to abortion, while 13 others have passed new laws protecting abortion.
Four states have pro-life laws tied up in court battles…
And 9 states are being targeted by the abortion industry to enact new abortion laws — including Ohio.
Democrats in Ohio have already put an amendment on the November ballot that would guarantee abortion as a “right” with virtually no limits. The same amendment would also cut Ohio parents out of their underage kids’ “medical decisions” – from “trans” surgeries to late-term abortions.
With Issue 1 defeated, all the radical left needs is a simple majority to hitch that agenda to Ohio’s constitution.
Ohioans will vote November 7 on the so-called “Right to Reproductive Freedom with Protections for Health and Safety” amendment.
And we’re going to need huge numbers to defeat it.
But we’re not starting from scratch. Over the last several months, you helped us build an incredible grassroots infrastructure throughout Ohio. We recruited and organized hundreds of volunteers at parishes across the state. Together these volunteers helped us personally contact over 500,000 Catholic voters via handwritten postcards, phone calls, and text messages.
I give you my personal promise — we are going nowhere. We’re not giving up.
We’re not shutting anything down.
We’re doubling down.
