Tom Cruise sat in stunned silence after Sound of Freedom passed this one major milestone
The movie Sound of Freedom exposes the tragic reality of child sex trafficking in America and across the globe.
Sound of Freedom was produced on a shoestring budget of $14 million.
That’s why Tom Cruise sat in stunned silence after Sound of Freedom passed this one major milestone. Sound of Freedom is a true story about former Homeland Security Agent Tim Ballard, who resigned from his role in the government to rescue children from a child sex trafficking network in Colombia.
Jim Caviezel, who starred as Jesus in the movie The Passion of the Christ, plays Tim Ballard in Sound of Freedom.
Even though the movie just hit theaters on July 4, it was filmed five years ago in 2018 but no major studio was willing to produce it until Angel Studios acquired the rights in March of this year.
But despite being produced on a $14 million budget and only playing in a limited number of theaters, Sound of Freedom emerged as the box office summer smash of 2023. On its opening weekend, Sound of Freedom crushed Disney’s Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny at the box office.
“Sound of Freedom, starring Jim Caviezel, is about to cross the $150 million mark as audiences continue to line up for the independently produced and released drama based on the the life of Tim Ballard, the former Homeland Security agent who quit his government job to devote himself to rescuing children from sex trafficking rings,” Breitbart reported.
Even more impressive is that Sound of Freedom has now outgrossed Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part One starring Tom Cruise.
“After three weekends in release, Sound of Freedom out-grossed Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One’s second weekend in release: $20.1 million compared to $19.5 million,” Breitbart also reported.
Mission Impossible was produced and promoted by a $400 million budget compared to $14 million for Sound of Freedom. But Sound of Freedom has only been available in the United States.
However, it will soon expand overseas to more than 20 countries.
“You ask, we answer,” Angel Studios announced last week in response to requests to take it overseas. “‘Sound of Freedom’ is on its way around the world.”
