The Biden DOJ is stepping up assaults on pro-life activists who peacefully pray in public.

Meanwhile they are allowing pro-abortion thugs and criminals to roam freely despite their violent actions.And now these pro-life activists face jail time after DOJ weaponizes and the GOP is finally taking action.

As more pro-life activists face prison time after charges by the DOJ, Republican members of Congress are finally taking action to try and rein in the Biden DOJ. 

On its FACE it’s bad law

Congressman Chip Roy (R-TX) has introduced a bill to repeal the unconstitutional FACE Act. 

And according to a report in the Daily Signal, Senator Mike Lee (R-UT) will soon introduce a Senate version of the bill. The FACE Act “prohibits threats of force, obstruction and property damage intended to interfere with reproductive health care services.” 

But it has been used by the politicized DOJ in a one-sided effort to arrest to go after pro-life activists.

It is simply bad law that is being used to arrest and lock up peaceful Christians like the 73 and 74 year-old women recently convicted of praying outside an abortion mill.

“Free Americans should never live in fear of their government targeting them because of their beliefs,” Roy told The Daily Signal. “Yet, Biden’s Department of Justice has brazenly weaponized the FACE Act against normal, everyday Americans across the political spectrum, simply because they are pro-life.”

“Our Constitution separates power between the federal government and the states for a reason, and we ignore that safeguard at our own peril,” he added. “The FACE Act is an unconstitutional federal takeover of state police powers; it must be repealed.”Roy’s bill is already cosponsored by a number of Republican representatives including Chris Smith (R-NJ), Bob Good (R-VA), Andrew Clyde (R-GA), Jim Banks (R-IN), Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL), and Doug Lamborn (R-CO).

A concerted DOJ effort to target pro-lifers

While the FACE Act is supposed to protect both abortion mills and pro-life pregnancy centers, the DOJ has widely used it only to charge Pro-Life activists with FACE violations.

This has been especially true ever since the Supreme Court’s June 2022 Dobbs Decision which overturned Roe v. Wade.

There have been hundreds of violent attacks, arson, break-ins, vandalism, and even assaults on pro-life pregnancy centers and volunteers but the DOJ has for the most part looked the other way on these crimes.

Meanwhile they are specifically targeting peaceful pro-life activists who dare pray on public sidewalks.This concerted effort by the DOJ to go after Christian and Pro-Life activists shows the urgency of repealing the FACE Act.

Just last week, three more Pro-Life activists were convicted on DOJ charges of trying to stop abortions at a Washington, D.C. abortion mill. 

And in August, five other Pro-Life activists were found guilty of violating the FACE Act.

Some of these pro-lifers are being represented by the legal firm The Thomas More Society. 

The firm’s general counsel Andrew Bath told The Daily Signal that the “egregious abuse of government power must stop.”

“The FACE Act has been weaponized by this administration” he said. “Even if enforced honestly, the FACE Act is unconstitutional. If our constitutional system of separation of powers and the ideal of citizen self-government are to be preserved, the FACE Act must be repealed.”

And even more frightening, the Justice Department has openly admitted that it is targeting pro-life activists through the FACE Act as a response to the overturn of Roe v. Wade. 

Associate Attorney General Vanita Gupta said that the overturn of Roe increased “the urgency” of the DOJ’s work—including the “enforcement of the FACE Act, to ensure continued lawful access to reproductive services.”

The DOJ charged at least 26 pro-life individuals in 2022 with violations of the FACE Act. 

Yet no pro-abortion criminals were charged with FACE Act violations in 2022.

This despite the fact that at least 88 pro-life organizations and centers and 192 churches have been attacked since the May leak of the Supreme Court draft opinion indicating Roe v. Wade would be overturned.

“The Biden administration has taken weaponization of government to a new level—his weapon of choice against pro-lifers has been the FACE Act, which has been mainly used to target peaceful pro-life activists who stand up for the unborn,” Tom McClusky, director of government affairs at CatholicVote, told The Daily Signal. “Rep. Roy and Sen. Lee are right to take this weapon away from Joe Biden and restore the First Amendment right to peacefully protest.”
