In order to convince the public to keep up with their children’s vaccine schedule, late night host Jimmy Kimmel gathered several doctors to apply their own special brand of peer pressure.

A recent survey taken by members of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) of 534 doctors in the US showed that 1 in 5, or 10% of the doctors, said they had parents asking to delay vaccinations “by spreading them out over more months than is recommended.”
Of those participants, doctors explained that this type of “the practice puts kids at risk for getting vaccine-preventable diseases and might lead to disease outbreaks”; however, these same doctors “agreed to the delays”.
And then there are 3% of pediatricians who told these parents they should “see care from another doctor.”
Allison Kempe, professor of pediatrics at the University of Colorado School of Medicine (UCSM) commented : “Many physicians reported tension between the need to build trust with families by being willing to compromise on the schedule while simultaneously feeling they were putting children at risk and causing them unnecessary pain by spreading out vaccines on multiple visits.”
Interestingly, in 2011 the Oxford Journal reported on people who are “fully vaccinated against measles, has contracted the disease and passed it on to others.”
Statistics show that not only do those who are given the measles vaccine come down with the disease, but they are unwittingly contagious which could pose a bigger threat than the unvaccinated.
Four years ago the Clinical Infectious Diseases (CID) reported that 88 people became infected with measles from a vaccinated woman. Of those infected, 2 were fully vaccinated.
The problem was that the measles vaccine caused the originating person’s immune system to break down while simultaneously failing to provide an alternative immunity.
This week the National Institutes of Health (NIH) released information sowing that this year’s flu vaccine is only 18% effective against the strain H3N2 which is in “current circulation”.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) admitted that not only is the vaccine’s effectiveness is lower for children 2-8, who are more susceptible to harsher flu symptoms than adults with fully developed immune systems; but the nasal spray vaccine showed potentially no benefit to young children. Neither vaccine worked well in protecting against H3N2 viruses this season.”
Back in January of 2015, the 2014-2015 flu season hit a snag in treatment options with “effectiveness of the vaccine only 25%, while it was 50-60% during other years” according to the CDC.
Vaccines available to the public is only 25% effective at combating H3N2, however doctors are recommending it as prevention – better than nothing at all.
Interestingly, the flu vaccine is being combined with antiviral drugs because the CDC suggests that “if a healthy person is given antiviral in the first 48 hours after he or she exhibits symptoms of flu, it can reduce the usually five- to six-day course of illness by at least one day.”
