Heads Up, NFL Crybabies: Severely Disabled Boy Stands for the National Anthem

In 2013, high school football player Wesley Baker was walking down a highway in Conway, South Carolina when he was struck by a large truck. The accident nearly killed him and left him with severe injuries. He suffered brain damage and lost most of his right leg. His parents say Wesley has worked hard since then to become more mobile and hopefully get out of his wheelchair. And while in attendance last Friday at one of the many games they attend each week, Wesley stood for the first time during the national anthem, a dream come true, said his parents.
“It feels like a dream,” the boy’s mother said. “I’ve asked God for three years … when his accident took place, I said, ‘God, please let my son walk again and talk again,’ and day by day, he’s shown me miracles.”
The family said they are going to continue to work with Wesley and perhaps get him to be able to walk across the football field he once enjoyed running around.
Wesley’s mother said she hopes the country can see her son standing for the anthem when so many able-bodied NFL stars won’t.
“Wesley, he’s worked hard, he’s lost his leg, and he had a right to sit down, but now God is giving him the strength to stand up, and we all need to stand up for America,” she said.
Isn't it time Wesley replaced Colin Kaepernick and his friends in the posters that hang on the walls of NFL fans across the country?
