Fellow American,
Politicians in Washington continue to pour your
tax dollars down the drain.
For every $1.00 you
pay in individual income taxes ...
... a whopping 42
cents goes to wasteful, inefficient, and outdated federal
programs...
... 26 cents
goes to pay the $407 billion in annual interest owed on the national
debt...
... and just 32
cents pays for the services our government was founded to
provide.
All too often, self-serving
politicians siphon off funding from priorities like a strong national defense
and protecting our borders to pay for special interest spending that benefits
the privileged few.
My name is Tom Schatz. As president
of the Council for Citizens Against Government Waste (CCAGW), I am conducting
this nationwide petition drive to provide indisputable proof to our elected
officials in Washington that the American people have had enough of this abuse
of our tax dollars.
Since 1991, CCAGW has documented how
members of Congress have spent $323 billion of your tax dollars
on a whopping 110,442 pork-barrel projects that only benefit
themselves, their friends and campaign contributors, and the special
interests.
Over the last 25 years, this
parochial, pet spending has funded such absurd projects as:
-
- A teapot museum in South Carolina;
-
- An indoor tropical rainforest in Iowa;
and
-
- Research on "goth" culture ... among many,
many other boondoggles.
With our national debt at $19 trillion and
climbing, this wasteful, reckless, and totally unnecessary spending has got to
stop!
Members of Congress have high-priced
lobbyists and well-heeled campaign contributors whispering in their ear every
day demanding funding for their pet projects.
Our elected representatives in
Congress need to hear from YOU and the millions of other Americans who want an
end to this unaffordable waste.
If
you don't make your voice heard now, Congress will continue catering to the
demands of the special interests who want their pork.
The best way to overcome the very
vocal special interests who benefit from pork-barrel spending is by
demonstrating an overwhelming public outcry for an end to these wasteful
projects.
Congress responds to what they
believe the public wants the most.
If we let our elected officials in
Congress know that we are appalled by and fed up with self-serving, special
interest spending in Washington, they're going to have no choice but to take
action... or else we'll vote them out of office!
With just $0.19 of every individual income tax dollar
going to essential government programs, we cannot afford to let our politicians
lavish funds on pork-barrel projects for selfish personal and political
reasons.
For our nation's financial future
and the future of your children and grandchildren, I urge you to demand that
Congress stop this abuse of your tax dollars.
Thank you for joining us in the
fight for fiscal responsibility in our nation's capital.
Sincerely,
Thomas A. Schatz President Council for Citizens Against Government
Waste
