Last weekend Saturday Night Live opened with a much-awaited (by Democrats, anyway) skit parodying last week's first presidential debate. It featured Michael Che as moderator Lester Holt, comedienne Kate McKinnon returning in her role as a wild-eyed Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, and progressive actor Alec Baldwin in his premier appearance as GOP opponent Donald Trump. It went exactly as you might expect, with the barbed humor directed overwhelmingly at Trump.
Predictably, Trump was ridiculed as racist and stupid while Hillary was depicted as, at worst, over-prepared. It was full of anti-Trump talking points throughout, such as Hillary claiming that Trump is unfit to be president, he's bullying, he "started the birther movement," he "claims climate change is a hoax," and he "hasn't released his tax returns."
Holt's questions to Hillary are phrased in a way that either puts her in a good light or allows her to respond in a way that puts Trump in a bad light. The skit even dismissed concerns about Hillary's health by having McKinnon somersault away from a walking cane onto the stage. "I'm better than ever! Let's do this!'
