First Voice of Charlie Brown Dies
(ConservativeHub.com) – So many Americans look back on their childhood and can fondly remember watching Charlie Brown cartoons on Saturday mornings. Sadly, though, Peter Robbins, the first person to voice the beloved young boy, took his own life last week after struggling with mental illness for years.
Robbins, who voiced Charlie Brown from 1963 to 1969 in the “Peanuts” show and “A Charlie Brown Christmas,” died last week after committing suicide. The New York Post shared the sad news:
Robbins started playing the iconic character when he was nine and phased out of the job when he turned fourteen. He eventually made it into other Hollywood shows, including “Get Smart” and “The Donna Reed Show.”
However, his life was also a constant struggle with bipolar disorder, and he got himself in trouble on more than one occasion. At one point, a jury sentenced him to over four years in prison for sending threatening letters to people, including a San Diego County sheriff. This punishment came after he had previously pleaded guilty to stalking both a plastic surgeon and his ex-girlfriend, the surgeon’s patient.
After his release from prison in 2019, he told reporters the experience made him a “better person” and that he felt “humble, grateful, and thankful” for having lived through it.
