More light shed on phony Catholic
DETROIT (ChurchMilitant.com) - The speaker of the House once wanted to be a priest owing to a desire for "power."
Democrat House speaker Nancy Pelosi has been in the spotlight after the archbishop of San Francisco announced plans to block her from receiving Holy Communion over her support for abortion.
An article this week from CNS News highlighted a 2003 interview in which Pelosi explained why she wanted to be a priest when she was growing up. "When I was little, my mother always wanted me to be a nun," Pelosi said. "I didn't think I wanted to be a nun, but I thought I might want to be a priest because there seemed to be a little more power there, a little more discretion over what was going on in the parish."
Throughout the 2003 interview, the California politician explained how her views on Catholicism and politics differed significantly from the views of her parents and siblings. She discussed how her family has had "occasions where they would like me to be less visible — that they don't like to see any disagreement between the Church and any of us."
GabTweetIt seems Pelosi's family has stayed strong in the Catholic faith, despite Nancy's prominence in leftist American politics. Speaking in 2012 at Texas A&M University, the congresswoman discussed her support for the Obamacare mandate that would require health insurers to provide contraceptives and abortion-inducing drugs for free.
She encouraged the crowd to "be prayerful" about the regulation, before noting her mother's disapproval of her social views: "I'd say my mother — I won't even tell you the conversations that we've had on this subject. We have differing views."
Despite Abp. Salvatore Cordileone's barring Pelosi from receiving Holy Communion in his diocese last week, Politico reported the congresswoman successfully received the Eucharist at a Mass in Washington, D.C., this past Sunday.

While seven bishops have offered public support for Cordileone's decision to ban Pelosi from receiving the sacrament because of her pro-abortion views, Cdl. Wilton Gregory, the leader of the archdiocese of Washington, has refrained from making any public comment.
A spokesman for the archdiocese told the Washington Examiner in an email this week, "We have not been responding to inquiries on this topic because Cdl. [Wilton] Gregory's position has not changed from what he has said in the past."
A follow-up email explained that Cdl. Gregory has no new comments about fake Catholic politicians being denied Holy Communion. "The actions of Abp. Cordileone are his decision to make in the archdiocese of San Francisco. Cardinal Gregory has not instructed the priests of the Roman Catholic archdiocese of Washington to refuse Communion to anyone."
In a September 2021 interview, Gregory avoided taking a stance on this pressing issue, weakly saying that bishops are "not there as police, we're there as pastors, and as pastors, we certainly have to teach the faith of the Church; we have to be true to the Church's heritage of faith, but we also have to bring people along with us."
