Jerusalem Inspiration

The last few days in Israel have seen much anguish, particularly in the surrounding neighborhoods of Hebron.  What is it about the holy city that makes it a frequent target for bloody terrorists? Only the Almighty knows the true answer, but if we delve into the history of the city of our Patriarchs we find Hebron to be central to our nation's story. Starting from the birth of monotheism under Abraham spanning generations to the birth of the Jewish empire under King David, Hebron stands at the core of our Nationhood. In modern Israel, the city of Hebron represents our history, our roots in the land of Israel, and our faith in the right to reside in the ancient city.  Despite the terror, Hebron is a city of love and peace. Learn about the history of Hebron, and show your support during these trying times.

Today's photo features the Cave of Machpelah in Hebron. The Hebrew word "makh-peh-LA" means "multiple," a reference to the four holy couples buried there: Adam & Eve, Abraham & Sarah, Isaac & Rebecca, and Jacob & Leah.

“When I Read My Bible I Understand it Better”

It’s great to hear from you and make new friends from all over the world. Please send me an email and let me know how you are enjoying Jerusalem365 (don’t forget to say where you are from!).

I am from SA Centurion. I enjoy the post every day. I was in Israel in 2012 and that was an amazing experience. Every day when l read my bible l understand it better. If l read something of the Mountain Zion l stick a picture of it in my bible. Now my bible is full of pictures and that reminds me of when l was at lsrael. I Pray for the Peace of Jerusalem Ps 122:6. Amen.- chris labuschagne
