House majority whip Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA) was on Fox & Friends with a stern message about the current political climate and the increasing number of calls for violence. He suggests that any call for violence is a direct threat to our American democracy. Scalise might have been triggered into this statement after Eric Holder went viral when he jokingly stated that when Republicans go low “we kick em.”
Holder’s violent rhetoric may have been said in jest, but it can often be mistaken as the complete opposite if a supporter is an extremist. Maxine Waters was criticized for her language that appeared to incite violence as well.
Scalise also spoke about the calls for violence, whether they be serious or joking, because Steve Scalise is a victim of a shooting that left him bleeding at second base during a friendly political baseball game. He was shot by an alleged Bernie Sanders supporter and survived.
Rand Paul was also a victim of violence.
Here is a video clip of Scalise and his statement on the calls for violence.
“On ‘Fox & Friends,’ House majority whip Rep. Steve Scalise calls on leaders from both parties to stand up against the rhetoric.”
Scalise pointed out that he would like to see members from both major political parties take responsibility and address the increased amount of language that calls for violence.
He also pointed out he would like to see more leaders from the Democratic Party condemn the violence.
Republicans and Democrats should both speak out against the violence and push towards a more unified approach to relieving tensions and solving issues that help Americans.
