Jacob commands his sons to bring an offering to Pharoah's viceroy, some
choice fruits of the land. A 'minkha', present, says R' Samson Raphael Hirsch,
indicates a gift that benefits the giver more than the receiver. Obviously, this
gift benefits the sons of Jacob in that it can cause the viceroy to view them
favorably. However, the gift carries the added benefit of reminding the sons of
their homeland and its blessings, as they again journey down to Egypt. Give
yourself a delicious gift from the Land of Milk & Honey!
