Dear Friend of Israel:
This April, when Japan and Ecuador were both
struck by devastating earthquakes that killed 700 people and injured thousands
more, Israeli relief workers were among the first on the ground with medical
treatment, goods and child resources.
That same month, a three-year-old
boy from the Gaza Strip was saved from permanent paralysis after an Israeli
doctor carried out an innovative procedure to remove a tumor wrapped around his
spinal cord. The six-hour surgery was among the first of its kind in the
world.
These are but two examples of the countless ways Israel is helping
millions of people around the world.
Consider Israel's technological
innovations: Israeli drip irrigation technology has brought food to
drought-stricken regions in Africa. Its desalination systems have expanded
drinkable water supplies worldwide. And its homeland security expertise helps
countries thwart terrorism.
So how is Israel able to do all this?
How is this tiny country able to make such tremendous contributions amid
the dangers of an increasingly hostile region…amid persistent bias at the U.N.
by some of the very nations who benefit from Israel's work?
The answer,
in part, stems from the activism of more than 100,000 pro-Israel Americans who
engage with our leaders in Washington to strengthen the bonds between the United
States and Israel.
These activists are members of the American Israel
Public Affairs Committee. And today, I hope you will join them.

Brian Shankman Director of Regional Affairs and Development
