Belgian Priest Stabbed After Refusing To Give Cash To ‘Asylum Seeker’
A priest in Belgium was stabbed inside of his own home after he refused to give cash to a ‘asylum seeker’, who had knocked on his door, asking to use the shower.
Father Jos Vanderlee, a 65-year-old priest in the north-east Belgian town of Lanaken, had to be rushed to the hospital after being stabbed, however he is expected to make a full recovery.
According to local newspaper Het Nieuwsblad, the ‘asylum seeker’ had appearently knocked on the priests door before asking Father Vanderlee if he could take a shower.
The priest agreed to let the man take a shower, however afterward the man demanded money from the priest, when the priest refused the demands the man stabbed the priest before fleeing.
Marino Keulen, mayor of Lanaken, said: “Despite the fact that we are shocked, we must stress that this incident can not be linked to terrorist acts at this stage of the investigation.”
Belgian security officials said they are investigating the crime, but stressed that this particular case did not appear to have any links to Islamic extremism.
