In most of the world, an old city is one that has celebrated its
bicentennial, 200th year anniversary. In Israel, a typical city has already
celebrated its bimillennial! Just one example is Acre, one of the oldest
continuously inhabited cities in the world, with a port that was once in the
same league as Alexandria and Constantinople. Acre is one of Israel's
northernmost cities and is known as עַכּוֹ ah-KOH in Hebrew. According to
legend, there was an ancient flood and as the waters approached this region, God
said 'Ad koh', which means 'until here' in Hebrew. Over the years, the name
got shortened to ‘Akko’. Help us continue to spread the beauty and significance
of the Land of Israel, each and every day.
