Today's verse introduces the blessings that Jacob bestows upon his
children. Jewish commentators explain that really, Jacob intended on doing more
than bless his children; his ultimate desire was to tell them about the ‘End of
Days’ and the arrival of the Moshiach (Messiah). Although Jacob wanted to spell
it out clearly, the details surrounding the Moshiach were hidden, meant to be
shrouded in mystery. No one knows what the End of Days will really look like,
but the visions of our prophets make it clear that it will be a difficult time.
