VATICAN CITY (ChurchMilitant.com) - A feminist liberation theologian is comparing unvaccinated people to the biblical figure of Cain, who murdered his brother, Abel.

Addressing a vaccine-promoting conference hosted by the Pontifical Academy for Life, Dr. Maria Clara Bingemer, a professor at the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro, insisted that vaccination is a social contract that has a "transcendental dimension."

"Immunization is either collective or it just doesn't happen," Bingemer told the Vatican forum on "Public Health in Global Perspective: Pandemic, Bioethics, Future" Monday.

"It's not because I took the vaccine considered better in its two doses that I'm protected if the others aren't also immunized and don't get access to it," Bingemer explained.

The Brazilian feminist is the academic successor to liberation theologian Leonardo Boff, a former Franciscan priest who was disciplined by the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith (CDF) for pushing Marxism. Boff now promotes "Gaia" and "Mother Earth" theology.

"There is no way to save ourselves because I am — we are — connected to everyone else who also needs to save and be saved in order for me to save myself. My life depends on yours and yours on mine," Bingemer insisted.

Vaccination, she claimed, is "an inspiring and revealing event, much more than just being sanitary" since it reveals "the truth of what the human condition is."

Bingemer regards the vaccine as "the only option on the horizon to overcome this difficult test that we have been going through for more than a year" and believes that "by offering our arms to the much-desired jab, we are, in fact, performing a profound ethical act."

In comments to Church Militant, a theologian teaching at a prestigious pontifical university blasted Bingemer's methodology as "bending Holy Scripture to her own conclusions."

"To use the Bible this way shows how low these people stoop. This is pure ideology, i.e., adaequatio rem ad intellectus ('adaptation of the intellect to the thing'). In terms of the ratio or intellectum which is involved, the absurdity of what one sees today knows no bounds," he remarked.

The theologian elaborated:

It has long been held that mass vaccination during a pandemic would be inadvisable and would provide opportunity for mutations to spread and even worsen the pandemic. This is what we are now witnessing with new strands emerging.

We are dealing with foolish conclusions based on faulty science. The whole thing is a mass hallucination. COVID is real, but the way of dealing with it has involved party interest and a game of hiding blame and making profit. Someone like Bingemer does not really deserve the dignity of a response.

In April, Dr. Geert Vanden Bossche — a world-renowned virologist with 30 years of experience — warned that mass immunization could turn "a relatively harmless virus into a bioweapon of mass destruction" and "wipe out large parts of our human population."

In May, Nobel Prize winner Prof. Luc Montagnier called mass vaccinations an "unacceptable mistake" and a "scientific error as well as a medical error."

"The history books will show that, because it is the vaccination that is creating the variants," Montagnier argued, expressing concern that epidemiologists are "silent" about the phenomenon known as antibody-dependent enhancement (ADE).

Bingemer referenced Jewish philosopher Emmanuel Levinas to argue that "responsibility comes before freedom," noting that Cain lacks the understanding he is free because "he is responsible for his brother."

"Cain, feeling inferior in relation to his younger brother, closes himself off and lets himself be invaded by hatred against his brother"; therefore, he "becomes inhuman — his identity turns to violence and despotism," Bingemer told the Vatican health forum.

"His identity and his freedom lies [sic] in being his brother's guardian. To deny this is to deny being human," she noted. "Therefore, the common good — the good which is common to me and you, to the self and the other — passes before the individual good."

"Everyone's right is prior to individual rights. Life belongs to everyone before being mine because I'm responsible for the other's life, and that's the only way I can defend and protect and care for my life," Bingemer maintained.

"Evidently, the call that comes from the other is external, but the subject may or may not respond to it. Of course, by not responding, he is going against what is part of his own constitution," she warned.

"It is the same Creator who asks us always and unceasingly: 'Where is your brother?'" Bingemer emphasized.

Cultural commentator and theologian Fr. Athanasius St. Michel told Church Militant that Bingemer had gone to "great lengths to invoke a complex theological tradition in her interpretation of the Cain-Abel narrative simply to mask her unwillingness to put both sides of the vaccine argument instead of her preferred progressive dogma."

He added:

There is no intellectual excuse for invoking the common good while refusing to recognize the problems posed by an inadequate research process leading to an outcome of random blood clots after a process whose initial derivation proved to be fetal tissue. This is not scholarship but propaganda.

Church Militant earlier reported on Rabbi Avraham Steinberg's demonization of people who refused vaccination as murderers ("rodef"), arguing that "vaccine refusers" should be judged in a "criminal" light and "in the sphere of damages/torts."

Steinberg, the Vatican's latest mouthpiece for the vaccine, provoked outrage in Israel after insisting the Torah obliges "everyone to be vaccinated based on the commandment 'You shall safeguard yourselves exceedingly'" (Deuteronomy 4:15).

Interpreted in context, the Deuteronomic text is addressing idolatry and not physical health: "Therefore, watch yourselves very carefully. Since you saw no form on the day that the Lord spoke to you at Horeb out of the midst of the fire."

In an op-ed for Israeli daily Arutz Sheva, the medical ethicist maintained it is permissible to force vaccine refusers "to be vaccinated against their will or to punish them for their refusal, as a consequence of the criminal aspect of their refusal."
